Google teases Pixel 9 Pro phone built for Gemini AI


I'm being prompted to switch from Google Assistant to Gemini on my Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.
I've read a lot of negative comments on Reddit.

Has anyone switched?

I switched and tried Gemini, but then switched back, Assistant still does many more useful functions and works quicker than Gemini.

Eventually Gemini will replace Assistant, but Google have some work to do before it is ready for that.

That seems to be what most people are saying on Reddit and other sites that I visited.

I get the Gemini nag if I press the Assistant icon, but, if I long press the Home button, I don't get the nag.

I have not swicthed yet. Gemini has many negative reviews and I am waiting for Google to fix them.

I think I've effectively disabled Gemini on Android 14...

First, choose your Assistant in Google Settings:

next, disable Circle to search, and, leave bottom corner swipe enabled...,
(Long pressing the Home button will be disabled)

Assistant will work from the app icon or bottom corner swipes without the Gemini nag...

You can also disable Gemini in Messages:

I find Circle to Search a very usefull function, just not using Gemini is good enough for me, but the app can be uninstalled on Google Pixel phones if needed.
