GPU Options for current system.

Hey all, So the time has come to either put the current build to its grave and rebuild entirely, or what im leaning more towards...is whats the best gpu i could realistically pair with my 10700k( Getting older and rather lacking now compared to newer counterparts), I dont wanna be throwing away big % of performance if im bottlenecking all the way to sunday, Im thinking something along the lines of a 4070 super/TI (Not the 4070 ti Super), An Amd 7900 gre or a 7900xt at the top end. Now new psu will of course be needed but not a problem. Im thinking most likely the gre or the 4070 super, anything higher i might run into some bigger bottleneck issues, Albeit i dont plan to run this at 1080p so at 1440p and 4k it should somewhat minimal by comparison to if i was running at 1080. Thoughts?

My view is go with a 4070. I currently have a Sapphire Nitro+ AMD RX 7900 XTX GPU which is a good card. But, that said before that I used Nvidia cards for years and they have better GPU software/drivers than AMD.

The reference 4070 Super uses almost the same power as a 2070 Super. You shouldn't need a new PSU, as long as you have the correct PCI-E power cables.

The 7900 GRE has a TDP of 260W, and the 7900XT 300W, so you may need a new PSU for either of those.

I see that the I7-10700K only supports PCI-E 3.0. Probably not an issue.

The RTX 4070 Super is about a $600 card (at Newegg). I can't advise you on the wisdom of upgrading the GPU on a system from 2020, as opposed to saving for a new build.

Wait until NVIDIA 50xx is on sale ?

I've always been nvidia/intel but as of late im not as financially sound as i once was so its bang for buck time sadly, that isn't to say i wont go nvidia ofc, The driver/software side was always better on the green side, It isnt a concern as such but it is a thought at the least.

So im at new psu time anyway, It aint anything great but has done its job, due a change i think. I only have x2 8 pin cables so i;d need the cables at the least, I wouldn't ever usually just try and patch a pc with a new gpu, But its where im at, A new build just isn't possible at the moment sadly, it'll be new gpu, then after itll be a mobo/ram/cpu combo a few months later, Only way i can do it sadly, I felt that if i change mobo cpu etc just now, im not gonna see much improvement on my current setup, If i change the gpu then atleast il see some improvement straight away to get me by for a few months til the rest is sorted, Even if i aint using it at full capability. I am also on a 4k display, so i have 0 issue with running at 4k and using dlss which should sort the bottleneck issue, should only really bottleneck at 1080 and 1440( Less than 1080p bottleneck) and then eliminate at 4k as il be gpu bound anyway.

Always a thought but they always release the big boy money cards first and the more normal ranges come later, so im predicting thats about 18 months away which makes it pointless annoyingly. Not to say i wont get rid of whatever 4xxx/amd card i get and do the swap later on once the rest of the system is up to par.
My 2070s is massively showing its age.

I used to think that nVidia's drivers were superior to AMD's.

However, for the last AMD card I owned (6900 XT), the AMD control panel was superior to nVidia's. I can't speak to the quality of the underlying drivers.

They generally are. In terms of software, i dont mind too much as i just use Msi Afterburner anyway for all my needs oc etc.
Im just at a sticky point where i dont wanna spend that cash and not see the benefit(Cpu etc route first) whereas gpu will allow me to atleast get something out it in the immediate

I take it that you're a gamer. You may benefit from a new GPU more than some.

I'm not a gamer, just a PC enthusiast.

Yeah essentially used for games mainly and a glorified web browser second! I always do full build at the time when its due just gonna have to split it this time around
