Hi all.

I have an mp4 file that is 10GB. I am trying to make a single-layer DVD (well, three) to play in my consumer format DVD player hooked up to my TV.

I am trying to render the mp4 to mpeg-2 in Sony Vegas, but it can't do it; it tells me an unexpected error occurred a soon as I start the render.

Is there a freebie coverter that can do the conversion for me, or do I have a better option?

ConvertXtoDVD was and probably still is... excellent software for converting any video file and burning it to DVD.
It does... everything. ^^


I have approx. 1000 movies on my hard drive.
I used to burn a few, here and there, to DVDs for friends. ConvertXtoDVD worked... great.

I've always used DVD Styler for that. With care you can produce professional looking DVDs with menus and everything. Free and available as a Portable App, so you can use it without having to install it.

I agree, when I used to burn DVD's this is all I used. I haven't burned a movie DVD in a long time, I now just put them on my WD My Passport drive, I keep all my movies on it, being portable, makes it nice to carry wherever I go.

The issue I see, and have to deal with at times, is a DVD-R or DVD+R has only about 4.2-4.7GB capacity. I use DVD+R/DL discs [Dual-Layer] that have 8.2GB capacity when creating the bootable Windows install disc as it requires more space. Some ODDs don't support the DL discs but if they do it's always been marked on the face of the drive itself. One may be able to use the M-Disc at 25GB and I have one such drive but hard to find discs so haven't yet tried it.

That looks like the ODD I salvaged from my 2016 ASUS M52 Desktop when the plastics holding things like the power switch started breaking.

@SIW2 has found some good videos for one of my favourite apps. I have been using DVDStyler for nearly 10 years now, ever since I first got Windows 10. It has never let me down.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

    My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Dev, Beta, and RP 24H2 as native boot vhdx.

apparently it is possible, but I wouldnt recommend it. Easier to use dvdstyler
