Solved Help with getting to 23H2, then 24H2 on old notebook.

Fired up an old (2008) Toshiba notebook today, to see ... and was suprised to find it had an early version of 10 22H2, and it ran. I'd like to save it form the elctronics recycling bin for a bit longer, so I updated it, and a bunch of updates brought it to 10 22H2 19045.4713. I used the offline Insider file (as admin, yes) to RP, and tried the bypass cmd to see where it would go, with Get the latest checked. Nothing beyond 10 22H2 has come up. I'd like ease it to 11 23H2, and then try again to see whether I can get 11 24H2 on it.

What's the best way to do this?

What are the specs? How much RAM? What is the CPU? Is it running 32 or 64 bit W10? If it's 32 bit then you'd have to clean install W11, as it is only available as 64 bit.

Almost anything can be upgraded to W11 23H2, but to run 24H2 you'd need a CPU that has the SSE4.2 instruction set. To check for that,
run CPU-Z. There's a Portable version, just download the .zip version from here: CPU-Z | Softwares | CPUID

I think you can go from 11 22H2 to 23H2 by downloading the enablement package. And I believe Bree is correct you won’t be able to run 24H2 on that old machine

Bree is indeed right. Can't be done. No popcnt, too tiny RAM, and this one is SOL. Thank you both.

No popCnt is the 'killer' for 24H2, 'too tiny RAM' isn't though, W11 23H2 can bypass the RAM requirement and will 'run' in 2GB, though not very fast (to much swapfile use). I have found though that it will run quite well in just 3GB.

Win11 23H2 reaches end of support on Nov 11, 2025. That's only one month after Win10 22H2 on Oct 14, 2025, so there's not much to gain by upgrading this PC to 11 23H2.

I'm in the same boat with my little old Acer AOD270 netbook, its Intel Atom has no PopCnt. Looks like I'm going to have to find a light-weight Linux for it if I want to extend its life beyond the end of 2025.
