Desktop machine and dell inspiron laptop, both 1 year old. both have Powerfg.exe /hibernate /on. BOTH show the hibernate option in the advanced powr options.
SEE GREEN ARROW image

THIRD machine, dell inspiron laptop, 4 months old, same configuration (same power config, i IMPORTED the power option), and it has HIBERNATE-ON also.
BUT (see red arrow image), hibernate is NOT AVAILABLE. it IS avaailable in the power icon in teh start menu (hibernate, lock, shut down), and it DOES WORK if i manually select hibernate on the power button.
but WHY IS IT NOT SHOWING up in the advanced power options? I want it to automaticlly go to hibernate after 15 minutes.

REGISTRY KEYS MATCH on all three machines, for where hibernate is controlled335.webp337.webp

any feedback appreciated.

Hello, :alien:

A Windows device that supports Modern Standby may not have hibernate available by default.

You can check using the tutorial below to see if your device supports Modern Standby.

If Hibernate is supported, then you could use the tutorial below to add it back to Advanced Power Options.

thanks for reply. you are an excellent resource. can we clone you in case you vanish?? :-) i actually found a link in reddit to what you posted above, (earlier). I did that change, and the hibernate option now shows up. I am testing it now to make sure it actually works.
I want the machine to be OFF after certain time, NOT in a sleep mode. I don't need "fantastic experiences" from microsoft. I want security. I have bitlocker on, and when teh machine is not being used, i want it shut down. FORCING hibernate accomplishes this.
again, thanks, i'll repost if this does not fix it.

You're most welcome. I hope it does the trick for you.

No worries. Alien cloning technology is excellent. ;)
