I need to upload a PDF document for verification purposes, but want to hide certain figures and text on the document for security reasons.

Does anyone know of a good PDF reader or basic editor that will easily do that?

I'd rather not use an online service.

one option would be to save the pdf as images, edit the images, then re"print" it as a pdf

I have tested the next:
- Open the document in Irfanview (freeware)
- Go to the page/part where you want to hide something
- Under Menu Edit select "Show paint dialog"
- Select rectangle, color white, background color white, activate Fill

- Draw rectangles on any area you want to hide
- Save the file as pdf

This method is the same as @dacrone described, but somewhat more direct, everything happens in one app.

BTW. You would have to install the pdf.dll plugin that is included in the plugin set downloadable from the Irfanview website.

I looked at Sumatra, but couldn't find that function?
It's pretty basic, but you're simply creating a Black Highlight annotation by highlighting text or an object, then right click on it for options...,
a dialog will allow you to choose Black...

PDF-XChange Editor.

The free version can be used to hide text and graphics, for example by drawing a solid rectangle or circle over the items to be hidden.
