How to get into a manual setup screen to setup 2024 Outlook classic?

I’m trying to get to a Manual Account Settings screen to setup 2024 Outlook classic (p/o Office) liked in older versions (2016) or similar.

When I open the the 2024 Outlook app, it throws an input screen requiring an Email address and to click a “Connect” button to get by, even though I clicked on an “Advanced options” area and checked “Let me set up my account manually”. The next screen allows to make a type selection (POP for me) then wants the Password as though the app is going to try to automatically set up the account anyway.

How do you get past these screens to do the manual setup input?

I don’t want to go too far without knowing the end result – will the app ever let the user into the old Account Settings pages to setup: Sever, Logon, Server Ports, and location to store .pst file?

Hi, welcome

Perhaps you could do it via Control panel.

Open search (Win+S) & search for Control Panel
Open Control Panel

1. At the top of control panel, type mail

2. Open Mail (Microsoft Outlook)

Win-1050.png

Enter the email address via "Mail (Microsoft Outlook)"

Go to email accounts, click new, click on manual setup of additional server types, POP or IMAP, and you will/should have options setting up the SMTP etc manually if you follow the prompts. Click on "more settings" when you've filled out the requirements

That's exactly what I was looking for; however when I go to Control Panel > Mail I only get a screen with one tab in the top left that shows "General", then an empty box that shows "The following profiles are set up on this computer". > Blank.
Then choice buttons of Add, Remove, Properties, Copy the at bottom:
"When starting Microsoft Outlook, use this profile:" (Fill in box).
OK, Cancel, Apply buttons.
Since I have not entered into Outlook to set anything up - there seems to be no way to get to the screens you are showing?
Further thoughts?

Are you setting up an IMAP or POP3 email account?
Is it a personal domain or something like Gmail/Outlook email address?

My current Outlook 2016 shows on that computer's Control Panel > Mail > "Outlook" and in Always use this profile "Outlook" but I never entered those back with Outlook 2016, I was able to go directly to Add Account screens you show.
I'm a novice and don't want to screw anything up - so a bit nervous about trying anything experimental - has anyone made entries on this screen before?

Personal Acct. Want POP3 and to bring over existing pst file, At&t for now, eventually Gmail.

What do you mean has anyone made entries on this screen before? I can assure you that I am obviously not guessing.

Outlook 2016 probably created a profile for you because you didn’t. You’re not confident enough with the directions I am trying to give you so I’ll leave you with it.

Up the top right, in the search, type “Mail (Microsoft Outlook)” or “Control Panel Mail (Microsoft Outlook)” and search user “antspants’
You’ll find plenty on instances where I have given the same advice.
Cheers

While I do not have Ofc2024 to test my suspicion, I would bet 2024 is only outlook new with no option to switch to classic outlook.
It's also my suspicion Outlook 2024 is very similar to Ofc 365 and those are the only instructions I could find.

(In case those of you across the pond do not know, Yahoo handles ATT email)
It looks to me as though it will set up the account as imap, not pop, nor does it appear there are any offerings that would allow the user to manually configure it as pop.

This is from ATT support. Maybe it will provide more info. You will have to enter what you want and walk thru each of the screens. It would not let me link the final screen

Outlook in Office 2024 and 365 do share the same inner workings. I think 365 may be more tied to IMAP due to its online nature.

I can assure you it is part of MS Office 2024 Home & Business - Outlook classic. I purchased separately and installed.
As originally stated, the setup requires I provide my email address & allows selection of Advanced Options > Let me set up manually.
Next setup screen allows selection of type > it allows selection of POP.
Next setup screen simply asks for your Password.

That is where my concern comes in as I have not gone any further into perhaps a point of no return. Why does setup need my email address and Password to allow Manual setup? What do the next screen(s) provide?

Antspants shows setup screens accessed thru the Control Panel with which I am familiar and have used in the past, but this 2024 version does not open to those. It only opens to the General Tab (Profile) page shown in my screenshot with no Profile names (yet > perhaps because I have not gone very far in the setup?)

Antspants suggests that i manually enter a Profile name and see what that does, but I have never had to do that before in my prior 3 versions of Outlook and am concerned that it might interfere with what the 2024 setup wants to do and cause a problem down the line. And while Antspants' guidance to others is very impressive, I did not see where entering a Profile name in that General Tab via the Control Panel (Mail) was ever tried before, so I am cautious about trial and error.

I was hoping someone may be able to confirm that if I keep following Microsoft set up screens it will eventually allow me to access manual setup screens to input info. In particular I need to bring over my POP .pst file from my existing Outlook 2016 all.

It's outlook classic ONLY if it has the word "file" in upper left hand corner" once you get an account set up. I use Office 2021 as do many others here. Last year MS added a toggle to "switch to outlook new" Folks learned the hard way that once that toggle was switched, they could not switch back to classic. The same happened to many 365 users.

Sorry, other than you, I have not seen anyone mention Office 2024 yet. Did you read either the Microsoft or AT&T instructions?
If it were me, I would add the account per the MS instructions and see where it takes me in the setup. You can not hurt anything and if the added account does not work, you can always delete it. It's no big deal.

I will tell you this. Yahoo has transitioned to modern authentication, requiring the use of app passwords for third-party email clients like Outlook and Thunderbird. This is a more secure method than the older basic authentication. To access Yahoo Mail in these clients, you'll need to generate an app password through your Yahoo ( ATT)account security settings. If you did not enter this app password (it replaces your regular ATT password when setting up mail account) , that might well be why you were not provided more options regarding manual setup. I do not know that for a fact, but it's reasonable to think that.

OK, the answer is you have to follow the Microsoft install path and provide both the email address you are signing up, and on the screen after selecting your desired connection type (POP) or another, enter your email Password.
Even tho/if you selected Advanced/Manual setup, Microsoft will proceed to finish setting up Outlook 2024 and Automatically connect/attempt to connect you to your email provider.
In my case it did a good job with AT&T.
It will create a "Your Name" = email address.
It also creates a new "Outlook Files" folder and a .pst file named after your email address. (see my new post asking how to merge my previous Outlook 2016 .pst with/into this one).
After the setup completes, you have normal access to the File > Account Settings for the email address via the app or from the Control Panel.

PS: I was aware of, had, and provided the Outlook set up with the necessary App Password originally and for this install. Appears there is no way around this automated setup.
PSS: The install did create a Profile name so may not be a good idea to make one up, but don't know what would happen if you did.
