How to Set Default Window Size for Explorer-Like Windows (e.g., "Save File")

In Win11 24H2, I find that I can drag the corners of a Windows Explorer window, and then close that window and (if it's the last one left) Win11 will remember its size. So then, next time I open Windows Explorer, it opens to that desired size.

But there seems to be a different setting for other Explorer-like windows. For instance, in many programs, choosing the Save As or File > Save option will open an Explorer-like window.

But that window will be the wrong size. Typically, it is huge. I would like set it at the same size as my default Windows Explorer window. Is there a way to do that?

Are you talking about UWP (or "Store") apps, like the modern Paint or NotePad?

Those apps are written in a different Windows framework, and don't remember settings for the File Picker dialog. UWP was imagined as an "one size fits all" approach to writing apps that ran on Windows Phone, Tablet and Desktop. Therefore the UI tends to lack some polish compared to other desktop programs.

I stretch 'em to the size I desire, per application, and they always open to that size...

It's my experience over a number of years that the file manager feature in programs such as WordPerfect, Lotus SmartSuite, LibreOffice, etc., use a modified version of Windows Explorer or the newer File Explorer and don't have as many features or settings.

have you tried pressing and holding the 'shift' key while closing the resized window with the close button.
that normally works to keep the resized window(s) how you like them.

Well, I only gave you five points, because you haven't added your monitor or storage drives to your computer specs.

For me, 24H2 always correctly remembers all my most recent adjustments to the size and position of all my Explorer-like windows. Whether I am using the new Notepad app or the classic-old NFOPad (the latter still uses its own implementation of yore), doesn't make a shred of difference. What doesn't work for me is the new File Explorer with tabs. But I have adapted to Windows 11. I.e., I have adapted to how wonderous is Windows 11 ability to fix its own problems after ExplorerPatcher is installed on it. For THAT, I love Windows 11. I love Windows 11 for how easily it lets me adapt to it...
