how to setup virtual machine through hyper v - external users should be able to access

I want to create multiple virtual machines (let's say 3 to 4). want a couple of them to be accessed by the external users. someone recommended using hyper V for my purpose. can you please guide me how to setup hyper V machine so that it's accessed externally.

This is mich harder than it sounds.

Firstly, this is a two part issue.

1) accessing pc with vm remotely.

2) accessing vm once logged in to pc.

You can solve each item individually! relatively easy e.g. using tool like Teamviewer to access remote PC.

Item 2 is easy enough i.e. use Microsoft RDP to access vm.

However, normally only one person can be logged in at a time with normal Windows.

You would need a server version of Windows to allow multiple users to access pc simultaneously.

The really hard part is making it so remote user ONLY has access to VM and not the host.

This is getting into the realm of corporate solutions using AZURE type systems which is very expensive.

I've had remote Hyper-V for years. All you need is to open ports on your router and configure the host Hyper-V is running on. I need to check my notes for further info.

Before you do anything. Please explain exactly how your computers are setup. You DON'T want to give Remote Hyper-V access to everybody, but you can configure different RDP listening ports for each VM, so people can connect to them using RDP.

But isnt key issue that RDP is not secure over internet unless using a VPN etc.

Anything is not secure without proper tunneling and filtering.

I have multiple team that currently logs into multiple laptops to perform some tasks. I am planning to replace these laptops with the VMs. so my requirement is to let them log into the VM (they can use tools like anydesk, TeamViewer as well) and do the similar work.

In order to do this properly, I fully agree with this.

There are pretty much only 2 options:
1. Use Azure
2. Roll your own local server on some beefy hardware.

Both will cost a lot of money, Azure or similar will cost per computing time used per server per seat, while local server will be a huge one time investment with a monthly/yearly licensing fee. Price will vary a lot depending on hardware and seats used.

You can also roll your own Linux server which would be mostly free, but this has its own quirks too.

Yeah, it sounds like OP is looking for more than a simple occasional access to a vm.

Posts indicate this is more for business use, and strong security for businesses is essential (as any corporation knows).

I wonder if a simpler domain type solution whereby users access a domain file server but external users have required apps locally on their pcs would meet OPs needs?
