How to solve error This app can't run on your PC ?

It only occur in setup.exe files when I run I get this error

No. Different apps and some of the setup.exe files not all. They are on USB HDD . I dont know maybe a problem with USB ?

Maybe try "moving" one of those you're having problems with, to your C:\ drive, and see if you still have the same problem?
Or even better... re-download the app to your C:\ drive and try that.
Personally, I'd suspect the external HDD.

Problem persist on other drives.

What were they working on before? 32-bit Windows 10?

That error is typically seen when trying to run a 16-bit program in a 64-bit Windows, only 32-bit Windows has support for running 16-bit apps.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

Have you run the compatibility trouble shooter? If that doesn't work check your malware or windows defender program to see if it has been guaranteed. If so retore it.

Does the setup process run from an autostart file or from a setup.exe file? I have a couple of programs that won't install from disc but work fine if navigating to setup.exe and running that. The file may be in a folder on the disc.

Some things to try:

  • Create a temporary user account and see if you have the same issue.

  • Temporarily disable Smart Screen and see if the setup.exe runs.

  • Do an in-place repair install, which may fix it.

It could be that you are on a x64 platform but the setup.exe you are running is for ARM?
