A friend has a Windows 10 PC connected wirelessly to an HP Envy 4527 Printer and it's shared on a Windows 11 Laptop too.

Suddenly, documents sent to the Printer from the PC will only print in Black, but ones sent from the Laptop are fine, i.e. they print in colour.

I removed the printer from the PC and reinstalled it with the latest HP Software, but it didn't cure the problem.

(Strangely, the test page sent from the PC printed out in blue, but documents remain black - coloured documents from the Laptop are still fine).

Would anyone have any ideas, please?

(I think I've checked every possible setting on the PC, but I'm stumped as to what's wrong).

When you print from chrome or some applications, you can choose to print in color or black, and sometimes the setting is easily missed.

Double check this. If the test page prints out fine as you stated, the communication and driver from the printer to windows is all okay. So its gotta be an application problem / setting. Try printing from more different applications.

In addition to the default settings that can be changed in Device and Printers I can set my OfficeJet to Black only and that will usually be the default for programs but the programs can be changed for the document in use.

Thank you both for your replies - I'm going over to their place today, so I'll post again later, after I've gone around the buoys again.

Just an update...nothing I've tried has worked - every document, spreadsheet, photo and pdf (either via edge, or a pdf reader) prints with colour when sent to the printer from the laptop, but the same files sent to the printer from the PC are still monochrome.

I don't have a clue what to try next...

(The PC is definitely up to date, as is the Printer itself)

I eventually managed to sort it out - it seemed to be that the 'HP 4520 'Network' Printer Folder/Shortcut had been changed to be the Default Printer...when I used the adjacent (plain) 'HP 4520' Folder/Shortcut as the Default, everything was hunky dory...
