Solved I need to take ownership of a folder or file.

Access is denied to the executable file for Bitdefender Total Security. I'm trying to take ownership of the folder, assuming I get ownership of all the files inside. I went to Context menu > Properties > Security tab > Advanced button and am stuck here:

After you add Take Ownership to the context menu... then you can just right click a folder or file and choose: Take Ownership


Using this Context Menu option is a LOT easier than having to deal with Taking Ownership manually.

Thank you for the tutorial. I changed the ownership of the folder, then I saw that the executable files' ownership is still the same. I selected Take Ownership it the files' context menu, but Advanced Security Settings remained the same. If I tried to manually change ownership, then clicking the link will make it turn gray.

I don't think you CAN Take Ownership of any of Bitdefender's files.
It wouldn't be a very good antivirus if you could.
If you can't Take Ownership with the tutorial... then you can't Take Ownership manually either.

I also run Bitdefender Internet Security. I've been running it since 2013.
What ever you are trying to do, can be done other ways.

It would help if you told us WHY you are trying to Take Ownership of a Bitdefender folder.
There are most definitely other ways to do whatever it is you are trying to do.

The reason is so I can open it with Autotkey.

Hold SHIFT and restart. You will see a choice to continue (load Windows again) or troubleshoot. Select troubleshoot. Then select Advanced Startup Options. The computer will restart and present you a list. Select 4 Safe Mode. Once in Safe Mode press Win+R and type msconfig Then go to Services and click to hide Microsoft services. Uncheck the relevant boxes to disable all Bitdefender services. Also click on Startup tab and then click to open Startup in Task Manager. Uncheck all the boxes related to Bitdefender. Restart your computer. Now you should be able to do any modifications. Once done go to msconfig and check back the boxes you modified and restart for the changes to take effect.
