icons for apps at the top of the Windows 11 screen(the dock)

Dear Group: nowadays, icons for apps I use appear at the top of the screen (the dock) . I can customize from a list of available apps that appear to fix them at the top of the screen as desired. Also on the taskbar at the bottom, there are icons as previously. As I work, I find the icons at the top useful, but I need to close a screen down of the program I am using. I cannot do this unless I close the dock. Now after I close the dock all of the icons are gone. I do not know how to get them back, but as I work I find that they automatically return to the dock. How can I have more control of this process?

Can't give a solution yet but my wife has a similar dock at the top of her Win10 screen on a 13" Dell Notebook, it's something added during her cruising of the Internet. Soon as she is through for the day I have to remove it. Best guess the word Launch or Onelaunch is involved.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.
