Is it still possible to install nvidia control panel without having to deal with Microsoft Store? Like back in the windows xp - 7 days. I don't like using Microsoft store so I usually run a script that removes the Microsoft store and Microsoft store apps but I need nvidias control panel too configure settings

Does anyone know how to avoid Microsoft store when it comes to the nvidia control panel?

NVIDIA Control Panel doesn't require Store to be installed or run. Currently it has no dependencies on .NET.Framework, VCLibs or UI.Xaml libraries (which Store apps use). NVIDIA's driver installer sideloads NVCP from a local package, so you don't need to worry.

It's offered via Store so it can self-update whenever Windows Update runs. Some apps like HP's Support Assistant and PowerShell use this so they can leave updating to WU. WU can update Store apps without needing Store.

I wish it worked like that for me. Because when I run the script that removes all the Microsoft store apps including Microsoft store and then install the nvidia driver I always get nvidia control panel not found so I have the driver but no control panel to configure the card

Supposedly, the nVidia control panel can be downloaded from the Microsoft Store without using an account. A little Web searching indicates that MS makes it appear that an account is necessary, but you can do the download after closing the login box.

I use an MS account, so I can't verify that.

This should work,

Change the OS to Windows 11 if the standard option isn't showing. I haven't tried it myself though. This is for my setup for example,

I don't get that. What I see:

The choices are the Game Ready or Studio drivers. No option for Standard or DCH.

That's odd. I don't have Geforce Experience installed so don't know if that has anything to do with it? This is how the site opens for me,

I thought it came with geforce expierence but i could be wrong, Has always came with it for me.
If you unzip the NVIDIA installer .EXE, there's a separate folder for the Control Panel .appx file. Which the installer silently loads for you.
The Store version and NVIDIA's installer version are always in sync (for the latest driver releases).

Interesting. Studio 517.40.

I used 7Zip to extract the archive, and found "d7bda1d24bbf4a8aad193fd20c874609.appx".

When I execute it, I'm told the CP is already installed.

A question I can't answer: if the CP wasn't in place, would installing 517.40 have given me it? Seem silly that the driver installer would include the CP, but not install it.

Yes, it's possible.... BUT Nvidia has stopped updating the "Standard" drivers. (The ones that come with a Control Panel).
All the newer drivers are DCH drivers... the ones that use the Control Panel from Microsoft.

Now there is a sly solution. Install the latest "Standard" driver, that has a Control Panel. 472.xx
Then, you can install the newer DCH drivers over top, and they won't need to go to the Microsoft store for the Control Panel. They will use the one already installed by the Standard driver. :-)

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?
It's been pointed out by several people, that's assuming newer DCH drivers won't stop working with the legacy CP. Which NVIDIA has no obligation to warn you when they do so.

Again, there is no difference btw the NVIDIA driver's app and the Store, except that sideloading rules require OEM's to repackage the identical app with a different hashed filename and License1.xml. The same rules apply to AMD, Dell, HP and Intel control panels on Store. Download their EXE installers and compare the extracted .appx files (which is ZIP format) against their Store apps.

Unlike other vendors, NVIDIA purges the old versions from Store, so it's impossible to download an outdated version from rg-adguard.

You're feel to do whatever on your PC. I'm just pointing out the truth about Control Panel Appx's.
