It said it had completed . The $WINDOWS.~BT folder is over 21gb. After restart it wants to download 24h2 again.

bit annoying

been sat at 0% for quite a while

$WINDOWS.~BT\NewOS contains the windows folder. where is the rest of it? Maybe that is what it is trying to download.

Thank goodness Windows doesn't consider my system good enough for this update. I just get a message telling me that support for 22H2 has ended. Seems these days everything is a trade off.

Do you want to get 24H2? My last remaining 23H2 machine got 24H2 as a mandatory update last week, up until then it had been optional in Windows Update and I had been putting it off for as long as possible.

This is normal. You restarted before the install had completed. Windows Update starts the process all over again, including the download. Don't worry, it's not actually downloading anything, just checking that the existing download is complete before starting the install. You can confirm that by opening Task Manager and looking at your Ethernet/WiFi on the Processes tab.

Leave it running and it should eventually jump to 100% and start the install.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

It would be nice if 24H2 actually dealt with the bogus TBMT driver issue in device manager, but despite the fact that it is still an issue on some Windows 11 ready platforms only goes to show that it wasn't ready to be released.

Sometimes if you have weird issues with WU try selecting pause for a week. Wait a few seconds and select resume updates. It might clear it.

Your i7 6900K makes this an unsupported device. Windows Update installs all the cumulative updates, but will never offer a Feature Update to the next version on any unsupported device. To upgrade to 24H2 you'll need to do a manual upgrade with the ISO and use a workaround again.

You can however easily upgrade to 23H2 and continue getting cumulative updates until 23H2's EoL in November 2025. Just install the 23H2 enablement package, no workarounds needed (it doesn't check).

My i9 7960X Skylake is a supported device. I did a completely legit fresh install of 24H2 and the TBMT issue is still there.

I might give up this downloading silliness and do it the quick way with an upgrade install at some point. It has only downloaded 350mb so far cba waiting around.

it seems to be downloading the whole thing again , then it will expand to well over 20gb again.

The 20GB is not being downloaded, the update downloads no more than 5GB for 24H2.

It is files and folders being copied from your current OS, they are destined to end up in the Windows.old folder once the upgrade is complete.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro.

What's really weird is that it says I installed it on Feb 8 and I remember trying to do that and it failed.

Glad it worked this time. Well, I'm still doing updates so there's still a chance that it could roll back on me again. 😏
