Solved Laptop display stopped displaying with second monitor connected

I noticed a couple days ago that my laptop display was not coming on when I have my second monitor connected. I'd been using them both with "extend these displays," but now the laptop display does not come on even if I disconnect the external monitor. The display works normally when I reboot the computer, showing the Lenovo splash screen and the spinning circle but once windows launches it just goes dark. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

OK, incredibly stupid solution to this problem. I was looking at the display settings and somehow..."adjust the brightness of the built-in display" had been set all the way to the left. The display was active; the screen had simply been set to total darkness. I have no idea how that happened.
