Hi,

When my laptop is plugged into a monitor and it wakes from screen off/sleep the laptop screen is dimmer than before. In the brightness settings the slider is still the same, I just have click on it for the brightness to go back to how it was.

  • Graphic Driver is up to date
  • 'Change brightness based on Content" has never been turned on.
  • I've tried switching off the 'Use Dynamic lighting on my my devices' in Windows settings, but it has no effect.
  • I've looked in the advanced power settings, but there is only the option to 'turn off display after', there is no screen dimming settings.
  • I've looked in Intel Arc Control center for my integrated graphics,, put there doesn't seem any pertinent settings.
  • I've looked in the HP Display Center for my monitor, put there doesn't seem any pertinent settings.

Do I have this correctly? You leave it working on the secondary screen, it goes to sleep, on wake the secondary screen has lost focus. All you have to do to bring it back into focus is click on that screen. Have I got that right."
When it wakes, Is the lock screen active when it wakes up? Or are all the windows you left open still open?
If it's your lock screen and its showing windows spotlight, for testing purposes change that to something else, like a picture and see if it exhibits the same lack of focus when it wakes..
settings>personalization>lock screen
From control panel power options make sure power plan is set to balanced.

Make sure you have no corrupt system files that is causing this problem. Open a command prompt as administrator and type sfc /scannow
Pay attention to the scan results to see if SFC found anything it could not repair. If it found corruption it could not fix followup with this command (note the spaces)
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
Restart computer
(Note-you can follow up with another sfc /scannow command to make sure that dism repaired the files)

I would also see if the problem exists in a clean boot state to eliminate software conflict causing the issue. If it doesn't happen in a clean boot, you have some software conflicting with Windows. Brink's procedure will help you weed out which one. Perform a Clean Boot in Windows 11 to Troubleshoot Software Conflicts Tutorial

NOTE: I'm 99% sure that laptop uses modern standby, not S3 sleep that you have always had in the past. (Some mobo manufacturer allow the user to enable S3 sleep, Some do not. For those lucky enough to own one of the laptops that allow S3 sleep, doing so can solve a boatload of weird troubles)

Before going further, Open a command prompt. Run as administrator. Type powercfg -a
Please post a screenshot so we can take a look at it as attempting to enable s3 sleep may solve your problem if it will allow it.

I don't use dual monitors myself, but another thing that can affect sleep isssues is your system bios.

Update to latest uefi bios.Using either MyAsus app or System Information app, find your current bios firmware version. (You can also find it within the bios)
You have 2 ways to update the bios, using the MyAsus app which does it for you or EZFlash after downloading a bios update from Asus. I always use my OEM app to keep my drivers and bios current so in your case that would be the MyAsus app)

(Note: If a bios update is available, although that procedure does not mention it, and It's up to you, but personally I always disable bitlocker (Pro) or device encryption (home) before updating bios as a precaution. By default, OEMs are enabling device encryption on ALL DRIVES in modern standby devices running home. It takes a little time to decrypt a drive. However do not go into decryption without knowing your 48 digit encryption recovery key. You should have saved it during setup. If you did not it should be stored in your MS account online. It's under devices or security, I can't remember which right offhand.
option #2 here Turn On or Off Device Encryption in Windows 11 Tutorial

After troubleshooting you can re-enable device encryption if you want your drives encrypted using that same procedure. But whatever you do make sure you record the new recovery key it will assign.

That's enough to keep you busy for a while. Report back with that powercfg summary in the meantime, please.
