Latest mega intrusive ads on Browsers -- anyway to stop these

Hi folks
This type of ad seems impervious to pop blockup type software and is mega irritating



e.g I'm looking for info on a topic

Then the top box inserts itself before the main bits you want to read -- e.g topic 1.1 etc etc



---- happens whether you use edge or other browsers. Ads are annoying enough if they are too intrusive -- this type is really impossible and seems to appear on quite a few web sites lately. There's no viruses etc on the machine BTW.

Could you post the exact link of the page in the screenshot.
I want to check if it's the browser or that website.

I just went to sysguides.com and clicked on a few articles.
I'm not seeing that ad/popup. or any ads, actually.

I'm using Firefox 133.0.3 with no extensions.








You mentioned that you have no viruses. Maybe some adware?

Looks like an adsense ad...I don't get that either

I don't get it in Chromium with uBO Lite.

However in Incognito mode without blocker, I indeed get it, nasty big banner as in screenshot.

I went to How to Create and Manage Storage Pools and Volumes in KVM Virtualization just for "grins and giggles" but nothing untoward popped up. I used Brave with standard block lists, and Mullvad browser, with whatever it comes with and "nada". However, I also always run Mullvad VPN.

I use Chrome with Adguard ad blocker extension, no pop ups or adware on any sites.

Check your browser extensions and make sure nothing malicious is there.

You might be infected with adware, run a malwarebytes and defender scan. If you find nothing, try Super antispyware or spybot. They might be able to find it.

Interesting, I see these type of "Ads" on my phone (when using cell data) where they will partially block displays, but I never see these on anything connected to my internal network. I chalk this up to my very robust firewall implemention on my gateway. I have been using pfsense 2.7.2 with pfBlockerNG. This is a very capable DNS Blocker using any one or more of dozens of available block lists. In my 7 years or so of using pfsense as my firewall and gateway it has effectively blocked pretty much all adware and then some. I highly recommend it.

I should warn readers, pfsense and pfBlocker are not for the faint of heart. It will require some education, research, and patience to correctly implement both Ad and malware blocking. Also, keep in mind, this is not an "end point" solution, but rather a gateway/server solution. It will protect everything downstream of the implementation. If you are too agressive in your implementation you will end up blocking things you don't want to. In addition, for no-fee, you can also implement MaxMind which is a geo-blocker which essentially blocks inbound webpages from specific countries.

If you prefer more of an "end point" implementation, you could try uBlockOrigin, that works with your web browser of choice. I use Firefox as my main browser with both Malwarebytes Browser Guard and NoScript extensions in addition to forcing HTTPS as a default. A very effective solution if not a bit of overachievement.

All of this probably sounds somewhat paranoid, but so far it works. You can implement all or just some of these solutions.

Thanks everybody -- will try some of these things -- I haven't had any problems for years with Viruses, PUPS etc etc so I'll do some more resarch.

So Thanks everybody. again. I'm not per se anti ad --people need to make money to provide services but there has to be a better less intrusive way of doing it . !!
