Hello Dear Sir,

How are you doing???

Thanks for helping everybody out of their PC problems.

I have a final trial for your exceptional capabilities.
Let's see how do you handle something real important???

Something I have been failed to trouble shoot own my own even I have tried all kind of solutions, even regedit and uppercase and lower case removal everything in my power.

Let's see if you are good enough to solve out this issue successfully???!!! :-)

I have tried to connect Hitachi + LG = HL slim portable Blu-ray Writer (with 128GB BDXL Burning capability).
Model: BP55EB40
SVC Code: EB40
Manufactured: Dec. 2021 (20-12-2021)
Rom Version: 1.03
Windows Home Edition (English Version) Version 22H2 (OS Build 22621.1848)

I have recently reinstalled Windows 11 Home edition on both laptops MSI GE66 Raider 10SFS & MSI GL66 Pulse 12UGK.
But none of them detect the above mentioned devices (I have 6 of them) and none of them works on both laptops. It is with USB2.0 interface and both USB2 and USB3.1 ports on both laptops do not detect them and there is nothing in device manager even I have installed all drivers on both laptops and have them Windows updated to full latest capacity.
No devices appears in device manager, if it was error with one drive I cannot presume that all 6 have error???
But funny thing is that I can open HL devices by pressing button on them???

Please take your time, and if you manage to solve out this issue successfully (make appear HL BP55EB40 in Windows explorer and Device manager) then my respect will be yours.

OK??? :-))))

Thanks,
Have a great weekend,
Best regards,
Themevictory

Does the drive require a separate USB power cable? some drives require two USB cables.
Try the suggestions here:

Try this too:
Right click Start>Run & type regedit & click enter, find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Click on this folder - {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} & under the right-hand pane right click on UpperFilters & choose delete. If the filter is named UpperFilters.bak then please do not delete this.
If there is no UpperFilters entry then proceed to delete the LowerFilters entry.
Close regedit & reboot your PC.

If this doesn’t work try this fix by Kapil Arya:

Try these steps:

1. Open the Command Prompt with administrative privileges.

2. Type the following command and hit Enter key:

reg.exe add “HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0” /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001

3. Exit the Command Prompt and reboot. Insert a disk to test and the optical or DVD drive should be visible now.

Trying to think about how a USB port might not supply 5v power due to W11 settings......
(OP says they have 6 of them - and they were working - so we can probably rule out not knowing about dual cables)

Thanks for your answers guys.
@Bastet
I have tried t wicking Windows register and CMD command run to alter it too, nothing helped. But thanks for trying to help.

@TVeblen
You have an interesting point there!
Even I have 6 of them I use "Y" cable at all of them.
My PC ports are USB3 while HL BP55EB40's is USB2 at both USB-A ends??? Could it be cause of the problem mayhow????

Have I understood you right??? If so how come Windows 11 22H2 settings disallows 5V on USB???
Please explain???

Thank you guys,
Regards

There may not be enough current coming from your laptop. Have you tried using external power source with at least 2 amp current?

Thanks for answering.

Could you please suggest something which may be enough to run 6 HL drives simultaneously (BTW I have tried them one by one too but failed)???

Thanks

Look at any of the phone chargers that you already have and try it. Just check if it outputs 5v and 2.0A

Just try one for now and see if it works. If it does, it means your laptop's USB port does not supply the required current for your device.
Then you can start looking for external USB power supply on Amazon with multiple ports.

I think you guys are incorrect about needing a seperate power supply. I think the extra supply you see in that pic is a MiniDisplay and there is not a dedicated PS? The fact that the documentation on it is horrible says a lot. To the OP, I would never buy something that is so cheap and lacking documentation, especially if you needed six of them, but I do understand inexpensive stuff is nice sometimes. I think you are SOL unless you install Windows 10. Or maybe you can run it in a VM, but that is usually slow and inconvenient.

Why in the world would you need to have six of them running at the same time, and how were you achieving that via a USB Hub? If so is your Hub a powered unit?

If so is your Hub a powered unit?
when you have 2 USB plugs like that, one is data and the other is power supply.

It has two plugs because one is Micro USB Pigtailed with a USB Type A.

Those are not the same model as the OP's. The image by OP has two male USB-A. One is for power.
If the data cable is connected, the PC will detect it but will not start to write or read until the other USB is plugged in and supply enough power to run the motors.

It looks like it requires 1.8A. But I don't know how the OP is trying to run 6 of them together which may be causing the power problem.

I see, I was following a link from another helping member from bleeping computer that was obviously wrong. I never seen one with two connectors like that, but then again I've not used many of them.

If the OP is really running 6 external USB drives at once then a hub or a docking station has to be involved, doesn't it?
I can't recall ever seeing a laptop with 6 USB ports, let alone 12.
There is a piece missing in this puzzle.
