I am looking for some suggestions for two types of programs:
1) A screen capture program - (not what is built into Windows!). I need the ability to add arrows, other shapes, callouts, etc.
2) Similar, but more advanced, I am also looking for a program that will allow me to capture the screen as a video and then to edit that video, make transitions, etc.
I currently use SnagIt and Camtasia (both from TechSmith) for these tasks. The problem is that they are moving toward a subscription model with HUGELY inflated prices.
As an example, I currently pay about $15 for annual maintenance on Snagit and $56 for Camtasia (ballpark from memory within a dollar or two). For people with active maintenance they are allowing renewal for 5 years with guaranteed price increases every year but will then force us into their full subscription model. In other words, the maintenance becomes less attractive every year until you are finally forced into full subscription model. This is the current annual pricing on subscriptions, and that may well increase over time:
That kind of price increase is completely unreasonable to me. I can handle a subscription, but when the price gets jacked by more than twice and 4 times the current pricing, I start looking for alternatives.
Any suggestions would be welcome.
