M.2 drive link speed problem after waking PC

New build, MSI Godlike X870E.
Sometimes when I wake the PC up the M.2 link speed of the top slot M2_1 is only running at PCIe Gen 1 x4 speed, and not x4. The link width is correct (gen 4 x4). Drive is a 990 Pro.

Samsung 980 Pro in M2_ 2 slot and a 970 Evo Plus in M2_3 are both fine.
All drives came from my previous PC build.

That's not the issue here, I do have the Godlike board which can support 2x Gen 5 drives and an x16 GPU
The issue is as I showed, sometimes the link speed drops to Gen 1 x4 after waking the PC.
Not every time, seems random. As this is the system drive I would be getting crashes/freezes if there was a problem with the drive or slot but it's running fine, just has this annoying bug. Could be a BIOS issue

What means are you using to display the link speed? Just curious.

Do you see an actual performance loss for the slot?

The link speed on my GPU falls back to 2.5GT when it is lightly loaded. I wouldn't expect that any NVME slots do that.

HW Info, and yes there's a performance loss. CrystalDiskMark shows the speed of around 900Mb/sec instead of 7000.
It's a known issue on MSI boards apparently

I only have one x870 system(AZRock) but am going to check that one out. Since this seems to only happen after waking up a sleeping system that to me might be indicative of a motherboard bios issue, a firmware issue on the NVMe drive itself, or even a Chipset driver issue.

I have HW Info as well, but I have no idea how to use it to display the link rate for an NVME drive. Guess I should RTFM.

My Gigabyte motherboard has some idiosyncrasies that I dislike, but nothing for the NVME slots (that I've noticed).

Took me a little bit to find that info. Click on Drives then select a connected drive. On the right screen look for Host Controller with the Description being a Hyperlink to the drive controller. Clicking that hyperlink will show the info.

I'd be kinda curious as to what CrystalDiskInfo shows specifically under the Transfer Mode window. It shows Current Mode | Supported Mode. So the Current Mode should reflect the current PCIe mode the device is connected at. So would expect it to show PCIe 4.0 x1 perhaps?? Or PCIe 1.0 x4???

Just updated the BIOS to the latest one released today, same problem
There's a lot of chatter on Reddit and MSI forum about this problem which seems to affect all MSI X870E boards

I'll likely switch my drive to the second slot
