Has anyone found a fix for keeping "Media Streaming Options" on by default? Every time I restart my P.C. it turns off.

set it back to default and enable media streaming and reboot to see if that keeps it enabled

just to make sure.. you have enabled WMP legacy, correct?

also - i've read that disabling ipv6 has resolved this for some users

as far as i can tell, manually enabling it is the only way. nobody has found the reg that is modified when doing so, there is no cmd or ps command for it and you can disable it via the services.msc but not enable it that way.

you can try installing windows media center on win 11 and see if installing that feature will keep it enabled... would make sense if it does

Thanks glasskuter but I already tried that and did not solve the issue.
open services.msc > set "windows media player network sharing service" to "Automatic" and Start it.

i made an AHK script launch the control panel page and auto select enable. you stated you leave UAC disabled, so thats what this script will mimic as far as keystrokes. download the attached .zip file and change the .zip extension to .exe for compiled script. create a shortcut and place it in Shell:Startup folder to run at startup.

it launches the window, waits 3 seconds, presses Enter, waits 3 seconds, closes window. if your pc is slower and needs more time, i can slow it down easily, just let me know.

I want to give all of you the reason for my initial question about Media Streaming Options being on by default. It all boils down to my wireless Canon Power Shot ELPH 360 HS camera. It would not connect to my P.C. to download photo's I took unless I made sure "Media Streaming Options" was turned on manually by me first which I thought should not be necessary. Well in the last post dacrone made in trying to help me he told me to "windows media player network sharing service" to "Automatic" and Start it. In doing that when I go to search for my P.C. with my camera it automatically turns "Media Streaming Options" to on and connects to my P.C.!!:D I want to thank all of you for taking the time to try and solve my issue. But a special shout out to dacrone! Thank you all again very much!

that is because you didn't remove the .zip extension and rename it to .exe as i stated. we can't upload .exe files here so i had to change it to .zip.

but aside from that, i'm glad the service was the problem and that you got it resolved. i assumed you had already changed that to automatic, otherwise i would've brought it up earlier. my mistake.

After I downloaded the zip folder, I went to open it to get to the extension and got the same pop up message.

download the zip
in file explorer > click 3 dots at the top > Options > View (tab) > uncheck Hide Extensions for known file types
rename file and completely remove the .zip at the end. replace it with .exe
you can then hide file type extensions again if desired.

Oh, I see now what was wrong! I had the "Hide Extensions for known file types" like you said checked. I unchecked it, renamed the zip, now it opens as it should. Didn't have to use it but Thank you all the same dacrone.
