Windows 11 Pro - version 24H2
I’m going to update my Bios tonight. I’ve read that I should optimise the RAM and SSD settings there. Although I’m not interested in overlocking, I do want to get the most out of my system.

Should I change the Bios settings and if so, how do I do that without causing any problems?

  • Memory: Silicon Power XPOWER Zenith 32GB (16GBx2) CL30,1.35V UDIMM 6000MHz DDR5 RAM
  • SSD: Silicon Power 1TB P34A60 Gen3x4 TLC R/W up to 2,200/1,600 MB/s PCIe M.2 NVMe SSD

Your RAM will require enabling EXPO in the BIOS, to run at its rated frequency. I looked at the downloadable manual for your motherboard, but I didn't see details of where the setting is. (It shouldn't be hard to find.)

(Yes, your RAM supports EXPO.)

I'm unaware of any BIOS settings needed to get the best performance from an M.2 SSD. Your Silicon Power one is PCI-E 3.0, which means that it may be slowish compared to more current PCI-E 4.0 drives. (PCI-E 5.0 drives exist, but don't make much sense for most people.)

EXPO is the AMD equivalent of Intel's XMP. Your RAM supports both.

edit, later: I presume that A-XMP means an AMD motherboard that can use Intel XMP settings. (Not all XMP DIMMs also support EXPO. Yours does, so I'd enable EXPO.)

I'm working on the Bios now.
The Bios wouldn't let me Enable both A-XMP and Expo, so I'm enabling just A-XMP.
The Optimised Performance Profile is set to Auto. The other option is Hynix 16GB DDR 6000, Since I don't know what that is (other than the DDR 6000), I'll leave it for now. Can someone tell me what that is?

This is the supported RAM list for your motherboard:


(You didn't provide an actual part number for your RAM, so I can't see whether it's on the supported list. That's not critical. MSI doesn't verify every bit of RAM on the market.)

I'd guess that the "Hynix 16GB DDR 6000" thing means that the MB is detecting your RAM. (Silicon Power seems to use SK Hynix chips.)

As regards Expo vs. A-XMP, I doubt that it matters, as your RAM supports either. I might have picked EXPO, for no good reason.

I regret that MSI doesn't make a BIOS manual available for download. I don't know how anyone is supposed to figure out all that stuff.

No worries. I've finished with updating the Bios and am installing Windows now. I need to make sure I update the driver for my Asus Monitor.

How do I install the Asus driver? I downloaded it, but there isn't any setup file in the folder.

Hi.

You should be able to install the monitor driver through the Device Manager. OpenDevice Manager. Expand the Monitors item in Device Manager and double-click your monitor model name. Switch to the Driver tab and click Update driver. Then point to the folder that contains your monitor drivers.

You should be able to install the monitor driver through the Device Manager. OpenDevice Manager. Expand the Monitors item in Device Manager and double-click your monitor model name. Switch to the Driver tab and click Update driver. Then point to the folder that contains your monitor drivers.

Device Manager isn't showing my Asus monitor. It's only showing a generic monitor and driver.

I have a DELL U3011 monitor and I believe it also said "generic", until I installed DELL's monitor driver.
Check the ASUS website for your model, and see if they have a driver for it.


Also... check... Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional Updates and see if there are any ASUS monitor drivers, there.

I downloaded the driver but it's just sitting in File Explorer. I double-clicked on it, but nothing happens.

What does the file name for the driver, end in? What file extension is it?

Click on the generic monitor, choose update driver, point it to the driver you downloaded.

Although I've never seen any benefit of using anything other than the generic driver. I'm using the generic on a 43 inch 4k and it looks great.
