Microsoft News App and Macrium. Another oddity with broken alerts but seems to be fixed now.

Just mentioning this because it has been one of those weird minor issues with no obvious logic to it.

I like and use the News App and it has been fine for months. Major news items give a banner alert at the bottom right of screen and also add the entry to the notifications icon at the right of the taskbar.

All good until...

I had cause to do a Macrium restore a week or two back. I was trying something out and the restore was planned, however the news alerts came in twice after that. Hmmm... we've had that before on the forum ages ago. Still on with Macrium and another restore was planned. Now I had three news alerts for each news item. Bizarre.

I tried the reset and repair options for the app. Now the alerts don't appear at all as a banner but seemingly only on each boot up when they are ready and waiting in the notification area. I've had it like that for a few days. I only ever see the alert notification at start up.

Today I thought I would try switching off alerts for the news app and also untick the two options for how they are displayed. I would then do a restart and then enable the three items again. Doing that triggered the first correct news alerts since that first Macrium restore. Should just say it has had plenty of restarts before that so it was not just the action of that fixing it.

Odd for sure and one that has no logic, at least to me.
