MS Teams using 100% CPU

Hey all, not sure if this fits here or in Insiders.
My MS Teams is running my CPU at 100%, and can eat up as much as 2GBs of RAM. And I can tell that it's actually running it because it's making everything else lag (my typing of this post is appearing one letter at a time with Teams open

) . Some screenshots:

I've emptied the cache in appdata roaming, and even reinstalled it. Still doing it. It was doing it yesterday until I updated and restarted my computer. I had thought that had solved it but i clearly didn't because 24 hours later it's doing it again (in fact, almost very exactly 24 hours, see the uptime on my screenshot, that's odd).

I'm on Windows 11 Insider Dev Build 23475 230602-1331, which is why I'm not sure if it's Teams or the Insider build causing it. Though like I said, it was doing it before I updated to this build.

Any ideas?

Just tried rebooting the computer to see if it would do anything and it didn't. As soon as I open the Teams app, it jumps back up to 100%. Guess I'll need to use the web app in Edge for now.

Edit: I should probably mention that, so far, I'm the only one in the office with this issue, but I'm also the only one who has moved to Windows 11, let alone the Insider builds. Otherwise, it would be a much greater issue.

If (Team) is not important to you I suggest visiting Settings and uninstalling it. I didn't find it useful but I did find it redundant.

Unfortunately, this is a corporate environment and we use Teams as our chat tool. But you are making me realise I omitted something.
This is not the "built in" Teams inside W11, that one has been uninstalled. This is the work/enterprise version that is downloaded from the Teams website, and comes in bundled in O365.

Teams is a resource hog. I always turn off camera after introductions to reduce bandwidth demand.

So the issue has seemingly "resolved itself" for now following the weekend, maybe because Teams will always auto update itself every time it starts up. While it does continue to be somewhat of a memory hog, at this point we all know that's just the case with Electron apps (unless they've already switched to that barely working WebView2 thing?).

I just started experiencing the same issue. Uninstalling/reinstalling Teams, clearing the Teams cache and restarting the computer didn't make any difference.

Windows 11 Pro 22H2 (OS build 23481.1000)
Teams Version 1.6.00.12455 (64-bit)

I've performed the recommended troubleshooting steps below with no success:

Checked for Windows & Teams updates
Disabled GPU hardware acceleration
Disabled animations
Disabled read receipts
Disabled "Register Teams as the chat app for Office"
Cleared the Teams cache (%appdata%\Microsoft\teams)
Repaired & Reset Microsoft Teams
Uninstalled/Reinstalled Teams (along with manually deleting all Teams files)
Rebooted the PC

CPU utilization immediately jumps to 100% upon launching Teams, even just sitting at the login screen before signing into my Teams account. As a workaround, I'm using the browser-based version without any issues.

Yeah, my issue is still present but intermittent. One day it will be perfectly fine, the next it will break. Restarting the computer does nothing, if it starts using 100%, it will still do it after restart.
The only workaround right now is to use the web version.
Really annoying.

An update for Teams version 1.6.00.12455 became available this morning. I installed the update and the CPU spiked to 100% for the first minute or so and has since normalized. Hopefully this update has permanently resolved the issue, but as you pointed out it may be too soon to tell. I'll post an update if I experience the issue again. The bizarre thing is that Teams prompted that it was installing an update and then restarted the application, but the version number didn't rollover.

Odd, mine has that version but says it's been updated... 2 weeks ago?

Although like I said, I'm on the Dev channel so it might screw with the date maybe?

I just noticed that as well. I've had version 1.6.00.12455 installed for a couple weeks. However, when I manually checked for a Teams update this morning, it said an update was available. Teams installed the update and then restarted the application. However, the version number didn't rollover. I'll do some more digging.

As an experiment, I grabbed a spare computer in the backstore and did a completely fresh install of W11 and literally the only thing I've installed on it is Teams. Right now, neither my own computer or the spare are doing anything unusual, but it will be useful to see if they both start eating up CPU cycles like crazy at the same time or if only one of them is.
