My Fingerprint login and PIN login is not available because password is not set

Hi,

I have such problem I have bitlocker enabled on windows 11 and autologin to my account (no password set) and would like to set fingerprint reader with pin as the ONLY login options to my windows but I can't. Both option are not available with info that I need to set password to use it. I thought that the fingerprint and pin is instead of the password and not in addition to the password. How to make windows login ONLY on the basis of fingerprint and pin?

Yes, you can remove the password from a Microsoft account. (I did that about a year ago.)

But you have to start with a password first to get fingerprint and PIN set up:

Note: To go fully passwordless with a Microsoft Account (Windows sign-in and online) requires Microsoft Authenticator.

Dangerous. I've occasionally seen 'PIN unavailable' at the sign in screen. You'd be locked out if you didn't have the option to use a password instead.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.
