This reminds me of when Adobe released CS6 in year 2012. You could either buy a perpetual license of CS6 or start a subscription of CS6 in the newly released Adobe Creative Cloud.
One year later when people waited for the CS7 upgrades, Adobe removed the option to buy perpetual licenses, CS7 never came out and all customers had to hop on a Adobe Creative Cloud subscription to get the updates, now renamed to Photoshop 2013, Premiere Pro 2013, etc, etc.
I think this will happen here as well. For a limited time (one year) Macrium will offer both alternatives as some kind of transition between the two license options and then remove the perpetual license, probably by the release of V10. There was massive complaints when Adobe did it back then, but today it´s kind of "normalized" and few people talks (or care) about it today.
