OS
Windows 11
Hi All,

Company forced us to Windows 11 today, a couple questions:

1. How can I get my taskbar to have icons that launch programs on the bottom right and once they are launched, show on the left. I could get used to the taskbar icons on the left but all my home PCs have it on the right so the back and forth would be annoying, and I really prefer the launch icons on the right.

2. How do I get 2 separate icons of the same type to show on the task bar. For example, I create two text documents, say A1.txt and A2.txt, if I run one, then right click on the task bar and pin it, it some how groups them into one "text document type", I would like A1 to show as an icon and A2 to show as a separate icon.

If there are mods, programs or widgets or whatever that can accomplish these tasks, please post any solutions.

Thank you,

V

Hello @Vanz. To align your icons to the right, please open the Settings app and navigate to: Personalization > Taskbar.
Then under the Taskbar behaviors drop-down, there will be a setting to move taskbar icons to the right.

In that same drop-down, there will be a setting to combine Taskbar icons. To make the taskbar function like you mentioned in question 2, set the taskbar grouping to "never combine".

Whoops, sorry about that! I got my lefts and rights confused. You want to choose left to get the taskbar icons looking similar to how they looked like in 10.

After rereading your post again, I don't think Windows 11 lets you put the taskbar icons on the right natively. You might have to use a 3rd party application to do that. It seems like what your asking for might be the toolbars feature which Windows 11 no longer supports.

There are free apps that are intend to "fix" the Windows 11 taskbar. "startallback" is one, but I haven't used it.

Would your company permit you to run one?

One caution: some of those apps have interfered with Windows 11 updates.

yeah, not sure will try it and see...

Why on earth would Microsoft take away this option? I really prefer the icons on the right.

Seems like a super simple option to add (bring back that is)... seems kind of arrogant of them to forcibly take away options users like.

I also like to move my task bars around a bit and not have them biased all the way over, seems like took away this option too.
