Hello!
I have been using Media Player Classic (aka MPC-HC) since Windows XP without issues. Back then the only audio output options were either Default WaveOut Device and Default DirectSound Device, so I use the Default DirectSound Device ever since. Recently I noticed a weird bug, after I had played some videos, suddenly the next video was silent. I checked and confirmed my audio card is working properly everywhere else. The same video plays with sound at MPC Black Edition or VLC. It was also playing OK in MPC-HC before this bug appeared, so it is not due to missing codecs. It is not due to configuration or other setting, as I did nothing relevant. Once the last video finished, I opened another, I didn't touch any settings.
Temporary fix: If I select the Default WaveOut Device, nothing changes, the video plays without sound. If I select the SaneAR Audio Renderer, the sound plays perfectly. Once I return to Default DirectSound Device the sound plays again for the first video but mutes for the next video! Weird! SaneAR Audio Renderer always have sound since probably it accesses the audio card independently from the standard Windows methods. But I would prefer to use the Default DirectSound Device as before. Anyone else encountered the same bug? Is there a fix? I haven't checked for any new MPC-HC version, could this bug be fixed in a newer version? I'm currently using version 2.3.9.28 from 29th January 2025.
