I've used the current stable version of NVIDIA Broadcast (v 1.4.0.29) without any issues for some time now. My recent upgrade (from 23H2 to 24H2) somehow changed that. It "magically" starts all by itself when the app's AUTO-LAUNCH settings "Launch when Windows starts" is toggled to the OFF position. Thinking there was a possible disconnect during the upgrade to 24H2, I uninstalled the app and checked for a new version before I reinstalled it. Same issue.

I really only notice Broadcast started by itself when my audio disappears and I see the app running in Control Panel's Sound applet configuration dialog box. Quitting the Broadcast app and toggling between Dolby Atmos and Stereo configurations usually restores audio, but once in a while it doesn't, causing me to do a quick 45-second system reboot before audio returns to normal.

All the other software I use (I've used some apps since early Windows 10) seems to be working just fine - just the mysterious weird glitch with Broadcast. Maybe one of the other apps is causing this issue? I saw in a Reddit post some time ago that there was a similar issue until an updated release of Broadcast became available.

I'm liking the new 24H2 so far and I'm still stumbling across some of the less-than-obvious changes under the hood. I've read it's taking some enthusiasts who perform an upgrade over an hour or more to do so. My upgrade took only 40 minutes (not counting the Windows update afterwards), and 15 minutes to do a clean install on my son's Windows 11 Home laptop over Ethernet. I bought his Acer laptop in 2017 as a high school graduation gift, a core i7 Acer laptop that I upgraded from 8 GB to 16 GB DDR4 RAM, a 125 GB generic M.2 to a 512 GB WD Black NVMe M.2, and a 512 GB 5400 RPM SATA-3 HDD to a Crucial MX 1TB 3D NAND SATA-3 SSD for less than $235!

A current, unedited zipped System Info (.nfo) file is attached for review if someone who knows more than I do wants to take a gander at it. I also updated my system specs this morning to reflect my new NAS drive and upgrade to 24H2.

Thoughts or suggestions on the NVIDIA Broadcast issue? (I really don't want to do a clean install because a couple of my more expensive apps keep track on how many times and how frequently I register a new install.)

Thanx!

I have the same problem with a clean install of Windows 11 IoT LTSC 24H2 where nvidia broadcast randomly starts by itself several times a day even though I keep closing it. Until I find a solution I've renamed the file "NVIDIA Broadcast UI.exe" in the folder ""C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\NVIDIA Broadcast\" and then when I need to use it I'll rename it back first. I made a shortcut that opens that folder so that'll help speed things up a bit. That'll be faster than uninstalling and reinstalling it. It's not a huge deal because I don't use broadcast that often but it's not nothing either.

@pf100 - I use NVIDIA Broadcast a lot for VTC sessions in MS Teams (personal), in Zoom, and Veterans Affairs' VVC (Veterans Video Conference). I am aware of the self-restart problem with Broadcast and know how to quickly fix the no sound issue. I mostly use Broadcast's Auto Frame feature, and occasionally the incoming audio noise suppression when there's a lot of background distraction.

@Ghot - You win the trivia prize for the day - my admiration! Not too many folks know that one-hit-wonder!

Well, NVIDIA just confirmed with me via chat (human, not bot). There is a known issue with the current version of Broadcast and 24H2. Not just randomly starting on it's own even when the option to start with Windows is turned off. There are also issues with the current version of Broadcast recognizing some cameras, stating it didn't detect any installed cameras when in fact there is a fully functional camera that works perfectly fine with other applications.

The NVIDIA rep essentially told me to wait for the next software update:poop:! I suspected as much.

I would like to report that I have fixed the problem of Nvidia Broadcast randomly starting by itself on Windows 11 24H2. I restored a backup of 23H2 just before I installed 24H2 and now Nvidia Broadcast doesn't randomly start by itself anymore. The fix is staying on 23H2.

Seriously, unless you have a pressing need to go to 24H2, don't. With 24H2, random programs randomly start and some programs won't start. 24H2 is just bad. I would go so far as to say that it's a shitshow. Avoid at all costs. Maybe it'll be fixed by the time you're forced to update to it and I will wait until the last possible second.

Windows 11 23H2's end of life date is November 11, 2025 for the Home, Pro, Pro Education, and Pro for Workstations editions. The Enterprise and Education editions will reach end of service on November 10, 2026.

Since I'm running Windows 11 23H2 Enterprise you can mark your calendar to November 10, 2026, almost exactly two years from now, as the date that I will move to 24H2.

Speaking of the devil... I saw that NVIDIA released a new version of Broadcast that at least addresses the camera issue.

[EDIT- the URL truncated after I posted. After NVIDIA's custhelp.com in the URL, add /app/answers/detail/a_id/5553 to go to the specific page.]
The link provides a webpage (NVIDIA account login not required). Within the page are links to three different versions of offline Broadcast installation files, dependent upon which series of RTX NVIDIA GPU you have installed that you want the update for.

I'll check it out and see if that also fixes the unwanted random Broadcast startups pf100 and I have been experiencing.

As with any new Microsoft upgrade, there will be glitches. Glitches that everyday users like me, not developers or superusers who know their way around bypassing some of those glitches, will find and moan about until MS comes up with a fix (or a superuser graciously shares their "workaround").

Overall, I am liking 24H2, even with the glitches I've found so far. I just hate that every time I get some kind of Windows update from MS I need to go back after the update and see what privacy settings were re-enabled and what bloatware magically turned itself back on.

Alrighty, then. I don't know if there is research to back this up, but here are my observations from yesterday and today. I installed the new version of Broadcast for NVIDIA RTX 40 series under 24H2, the same URL posted on Saturday, October 26. The new version of Broadcast still wasn't detecting a camera. I connected a newer camera, and it wasn't detected either. NVIDIA Customer Support sent me a revised set of instructions on how to download and install the Broadcast update for 24H2. They were the same set as the first set NVIDIA sent, but this time, I was additionally instructed to start the software and choose the Broadcast Camera (not the Broadcast Camera (Windows Virtual Camera) if that option appears). Low and behold, Broadcast Camera showed up in the MS Teams app along with the other two cameras I had connected. Now when I open Broadcast without any other app that uses a camera also open, Broadcast can detect both available cameras. It must be FM (freaking magic, not frequency modulation)! Kind of like when a USB device isn't recognized in Windows, sometimes unplugging the device and plugging it back into a different port will force Windows to reevaluate a "new" device on a different port, then reconnect it. FM!

Also of note, whenever I start an application that uses a camera, such as MS Teams, Broadcast also auto launches regardless of whether or not the "Launch when Windows starts" checkbox is enabled in the Broadcast Auto Launch settings.

@pf100, I know this probably isn't helping you any, but I also found the new version of Broadcast for 24H2 can coexist in my Control Panel's Sound applet settings as long as I set my primary speakers to be default, not Broadcast as the default, if I want to listen to music or watch movies. I don't need to uninstall Broadcast anymore with the new version. Just choose the "Quit' option whenever it auto launches with the opening of another app that uses a camera, or change my default speaker settings in Sound.

I will post this thread "Mark as solved " - At least solved for my purposes. I'm not a gamer, so I don't know the effects of the new Broadcast under 24h2 in that world.

Chow!

I would like to state for the record how bizarre it is that nvidia can't seem to control a program from starting by itself.

Well, maybe NVIDIA isn't the culprit doing the auto launch. Maybe it's MS' new AI driven 24H2. Unfortunately, I'm nowhere near even beginner level in that category. I noticed when Broadcast launches while Teams starts that it takes only a few seconds to launch. But, when I manually trigger the launch, it seems Broadcast is reading available resources or doing something just else as prolonged in the background because it takes longer to complete its launch.

You've presented a more frightening scenario where an operating system randomly starts applications that have been installed. An AI decides that since you've started Teams then also start all other audio/video related apps on the pc because that's what's best for you.

And people tell me not to worry, because Cyberdyne's Skynet is not coming any time soon! Come on now. NPUs integrated into CPUs? Wasn't the basic chip of Skynet cyborgs a Neural Processing Unit (NPU)? I think we're rapidly approaching an Apocalyptic Future if mankind doesn't take a step back and think hard before implementing something half fassed (that's not too fast, not too slow - just half fassed).

Oh, "AI" isn't an acronym for "Artificial Intelligence" (at least not yet). "AI" is an acronym for "Automated Idiocy." The worst examples of the latter are telephone trees or chat bots that take you back to the first question without giving you an option anywhere in the chain of idiocy to converse with a flesh-and-blood human. Or lead you astray with many minutes of inanity before you give up in frustation and dissapointment.

Google lyrics to Zager and Evens' "In the Year 2525." Or backtrack toward the start of this thread and listen to the Spoiler Ghot posted on October 17, 2024. The song was released in 1969. Even 55 years ago the song's writers definitely were worried about technological advances, societal changes, and potential consequences of mankind's actions.

Update: NVIDIA Broadcast v2.0.0.23090415 was released January 31, 2025. I've been using it for over a week now without any of the old issues I was experiencing before, predominantly the annoying auto launching without being asked under the older v1.0.39. The new GUI appears to be better developed and more user friendly, too, with a new GPU usage monitor and some new AI-enhanced audio-visual (Beta) features added for good measure.
