I can't understand stuff in the press saying that users of Ms's Office/365 were unable to access email due to a hack on Ms's servers recently. Isn't the Office/365 merely a subscription version of Office so presumably email users would be able to access their own email servers / accounts quite normally (unless they were totally cloud based via the Azure service which was attacked).
So obviously some fake news or have I missed something.
Edit: I didn’t realise there was a cyber attack. But still stands to reason that exchange servers may of been affected. You provided no link to referance, so unsure what the reports were about and specifically what email accounts they are claiming were affected.

Unrelated: I would love if the term “Fake News” (no fault of Jimbo’s) was stricken from the English language.
It has been compromised from its literal meaning, to now come to mean something that is said when one is trying to protect themselves from being exposed for the truth that one may be hiding. Or a truth that one may be trying to manipulate. (If you know, you know)

The outage was caused by a DDoS attack, which impacted their Azure services. Azure is the backbone infrastructure platform that houses Microsoft services, such as Office 365, OneDrive, etc. This could affect things such as logons, accessing your mail if you are a business with your email hosted by Microsoft, i believe it impacted logins from 3rd party applications that utilize the azure platform such as starbucks.
Certainly wasn't fake news. We saw some impact at my job from this, as we are using 365 components and Onedrive and such.
