win10 64 bit 20h2 ver. now it is 22h2
a few weeks ago i noticed that a window that i use to have locked in the upper right corner and one in the lower right corners now seem to open on the left side of the screen. i position them where i want them and click the x to close them and it seems they used to stay there then next time i had to open them but now for some reason they now want to open on the left side.

one thing different may be now i turn off the pc at night instead of just putting it to sleep so that may be why, but i have to make sure that is the reason they do it that way now.

also how do yu get rid of that annoying drop down thing on the top of the screen that seems to show up when you move a window close to the top of the scree? when i move one of my right side windows to the right and top all of a sudden i get a bunch of windows. that is real annoying.

and how do you make a larger area to grab a window over on the top left. that window i always place over on the top right is a longer window than normal as it has maybe 4 or 5 tabs in it as now win11 seems to like to do that rather than just one text in a window like win10 did, but when i move it over i run out of pointer grabbing space and so i go to the left top corner and grab it but it is real touch for getting the spot for moving a window in that area.

Agreed, quite hard to read so all I'll offer is this: the desktop is not Static like a picture on the wall but Dynamic, always changing and a number of things can affect it. Restoring the desktop view may require a Search of the Internet for a program that can be added to do that.

You probably want to turn off snap windows entirely.

thanks i will give it a try. i unchecked 2 of the check boxes and the drop down thing seemed to go away. i will play around with the window staying where i place it some more. it use to stay in the upper right corner on win10 and on win11 before i got a few updates. maybe one of those updates is messing with that setting. thanks

ok i got that dropdown to go away thanks tons for that help and last night i left the pc in sleep mode and the windows stayed in the places i placed them so that must have been what i was doing at the old place. after that fire i had so much going on that i forgot some of the stuff i had set up on the other pcs that got damaged in that fire and i had to start over with different pcs and had to go thru all the setting. and of course some of them seem to be in different places. or at least my 75 year old brain thinks so. thanks for that help.

yes on 10-31-24 at 8am the wife got home from taking the grand daughter to school and the car was on fire and she pulled in to the garage not knowing and it burnt the house down. so now i'm trying to get all the new to me pcs back to the same settings i had before that fire. i lost 5 laptops pcs. i have since replaced 3 of them now and working at getting the settings back to what i'm use to.

this is the chrysler 200s that started that fire,. and the truck it took with it was my old trusty 2000 s10. the house did not see much fire but tons of water and smoke and some type of foam. that foam and all the smoke destroys electronics. i took one of the damaged pcs apart yesterday to get a fingerprint sensor out of it and the connection are turning white with corrosion. the sensor was buried a bit further in the pc so it may be ok this ps sees it but i have to set up a pin so the sensor will turn on.

back to the question.

There's been at least one recall of that car for possible fire hazard. I saw a Chrysler 200 burn in a parking lot a couple of years ago. Glad your house wasn't taken with it, sorry about your truck and other damage though.

the house is a total loss the roof burned off it and the insulation fell into the first floor and now all the rain and snow has damaged the structure. they had to tear it down and rebuild it. i thing the battery or something around the battery caused that fire but the fire inspector said the oil filter caused it. there is no damage around the filter but the battery area is toast. anyway we made it out and the dogs and the house will be rebuilt. thanks.

on the filter side none of the wires got damaged on the battery side it is toast.

Sorry about the house as well, I guess I left off after "... the house did not see much fire..." and did not see the "but tons of water and smoke...." That is what always destroys the rest of it whether a house or apartment, and the belongings, etc.

yes it did. and thanks but i had good insurance and it covered all rebuilding and contents. but it still is a bit of hardship as we had to move 2 times so far. i think we are in a perminate place now being it is an apartment. but still not quite the same as our house. but on the bright side when they rebuild it it will be all brand new. new everything. we are going to try and have them rebuild it in just a ranch and omit the lower level being we just never used it. all it did was gather stuff.

anyway we will see how it all works out. we are getting use to this apartment but because i'm used to working on things like cars and electronics all my gear is at the house in the back garage and i have no power so it is kind of boring here at this apartment. thanks for the help i got that top thing that shows up when i drag a window clost to the top to go away and it looks like i got the aw snap to stop showing up i did a few updates with hp. and it turns out i had to put the pc to sleep not turn it off. i was under the impression that i turned it off at night but it must have been putting it to sleep. today when i tapped the keyboard it woke up and that is what i remember now. so things are looking up. thanks a bunch for the help
