Outlook 365 (classic) not adding gmail account

My Laptop is a ThinkPad P16s AMD G1 running Win 11 Pro 23H2. When I try to add my gmail account in Outlook 365 (classic), I get the following error message after inputting my email address. Outlook never asks me for the password for the account. I have retried several times and also restarted my laptop. On my other PCs, Outlook handles Gmail just fine.

Unfortunately the issue is back. I set up another laptop (Dell E5470) a few days ago and Outlook (classic) would not add the gmail account. I have tried numerous times over several days and the clock of the laptop is set correctly. Microsoft recommends to use Outlook (new). Why on earth MS does not update Outlook (classic) to resolve the issue eludes me. Well I guess it doesn't really. MS want us all to switch to Outlook (new) and get rid of our locally stored OST and PST files. Everything in the cloud gives MS more control and more access to our data.
