Outlook Classic or Outlook New?

Today is the first day for me that Outlook (Preview channel) tried the hard upsell, popping up a banner upon start to entice me (I don't mean the little toggle, which has been there for seemingly years). The help article revealed this, and it was on, so presumably turning it off will work for a while:

If you're not interested in trying the new Outlook for Windows just yet and don't want to be a part of this one-time switch, in classic Outlook go to File > Options> General > New Outlook options and uncheck Automatically switch me to new Outlook.

A really good source of info on everything Outlook (and Exchange) is slipstick.com's forums. the forum owner is a Microsoft MVP who is very knowledgeable. There have been some recent threads on this forum about the new Outlook.

I'm staying away from New Outlook until it has feature parity with "real" Outlook or goes EOL (not until 2029 or later).

If this version of Outlook becomes the default, I will cancel my Microsoft 365 subscription. They remove Skype, remove Publisher, infest the programs with Copilot and then this crap as well.

If this version of Outlook becomes the default,

It's easy enough to install Classical Outlook.

Plenty of alternatives today for Skype. I don't know anyone who still usses Publisher. Word is very powerful these days.

I'm sure that the smart guys in this forum will figure out how to disable/remove CoPilot.

i havent used skype in years lol. it'll probably stay and may still function but definitely wont be updated anymore. more than likely when you launch it after may 5, you'll get a notification to switch to Teams (i don't know for sure as i havent researched it in depth, but knowing Microsoft that is what i assume)

I've just noticed on one of my computers that I don't even have that New Outlook option even though I've checked for updates.
It has the same Microsoft 365 account as my others.

With the office subscription you get 60mins free skype time per users, so that 60x6 free minutes per month, not too sure if this will be transferred over to Teams. Publisher is great for certain tasks; things you could possibly do it Word but not as quick. Copilot is built into Word, Excel, and PowerPoint these days, not too sure if this is an addon that can be removed, I don't see anything listed.

Currently if you install Microsoft 364 on a new PC, the legacy version of Outlook is not even installed, and you must download a separate exe file to install it. Which for a novice user will not be easy.

That sounds like the death knell for the fully featured Outlook.
Why is the trend to dumb down software?

I'm starting to agree with you.

It's getting to the point where the Microsoft 365 subscription is not worth having.
We're paying a higher fee, but getting less.

Maybe it's worth looking into the Microsoft 364 subscription. ;-)

Really irritating, and to top it off, the next subscription amount is quite a bit more than the current price, due to the forced inclusion of CoPilot. We only really bother with Microsoft 365 because of Outlook and the 1TB OneDrive space per user, the rest we could essentially do without. The other apps were useful when my son was still at school.

Really irritating, and to top it off, the next subscription amount is quite a bit more than the current price, due to the forced inclusion of CoPilot. We only really bother with Microsoft 365 because of Outlook and the 1TB OneDrive space per user, the rest we could essentially do without. The other apps were useful when my son was still at school.
discussion here about it. i linked the article on how to avoid paying for copilot by keeping 'classic' subscription

I know about that, but I think the reduced price is only for a year, then all subscribers will be forced to the new higher prices.

Or you could prepay for multiple years. I'm paid up until well into 2028.

The five 8TB drives and three 512GB SSDs are part of a DrivePool using StableBit DrivePool software. The three SSDs are devoted purely to caching for the 8TB drives. All of the important data is stored in triplicate so that I can withstand simultaneous failure of 2 disks.

Things must have changed since that tutorial was written, but it gave me the idea on how to switch plans. (y)

Didn't even know that was possible, damn I would have done that from the start, the subscription was half it is now.
