hello!

Win10 user since years here, i just put 11 and testing out a few things..... PC sharing, usual dilemma... long story short.

Been a struggle for years on Win10 (tried all usual options, settings, etc), until around 2 months ago i found this nifty command:

CMD admin

sc config fdrespub depend= RpcSs/http/fdphost/LanmanWorkstation

That's all. Then reboot.

Which forces the publishing on other PCs on the network every time no need to Start/Stop every time manually to make the PCs show Services.msc -> Function Discovery Resource Publication, works brilliantly on all my win10 computers.

I've ran that on the Win11 computer last night and i noticed that it appears on all the Win10 machines (good) however on the very Win11 machine i don't see itself (which happens on all the Win10 machines).

Is this the intended behaviour in Win11 now where you don't see "yourself" but you see the other computers on the network instead? Which makes sense in a way....It's immediately findable if i go \\ and put the PC name.

Otherwise is not 100%.

thanks and happy Saturday,
Gabrio

All of my computers show under Network. Except for the one I setup for sharing, I can't access them but they do show.

Gabrio,

Are you talking about networks comms or just about what gets shown in the File explorer, Network section?
The File explorer, Network section has been unreliable for years.

You can use the syntax
\\COMPUTERNAME
or
\\COMPUTERNAME\SHARENAME
in File explorer's address bar to test the network comms themselves.
You can also use the same syntax in shortcuts to test network comms.

All the best,
Denis

what gets shown in the File explorer, Network section = correct, yeah that.

It sucks though, because this one:

CMD admin

sc config fdrespub depend= RpcSs/http/fdphost/LanmanWorkstation

That's all. Then reboot.

on Win10 works 100% they immediately show every time on all my Win10 machines. Odd thing is that the Win11 PC immediately shows on the Win10 machines, but the Win11 doesn't show up on itself.... bizarre. if i cycle back and forth this:

however switching off "Network Discovery" immediately shows the Win11 PC on the File explorer, Network section once. then it gives you Network Discovery off, obviously. But it doesn't stick. Any ideas?

Any ideas?
Yes, stop using the File explorer, Network section.
Fiddling with lots of things [such as the changes you've mentioned] can make it start working for a while.
But it remains unreliable - it has been unreliable since Windows 10 Version 1803.

Any ideas?
Yes, switch to using shortcuts to your network computers' shared folders as a highly reliable alternative.

All the best,
Denis

i can see fine all other computers on the win11 machine. So in a way seeing itself is a bit of useless anyhow, still i wanted to haha.. :) thanks!
