PC Frozen for a Few Seconds After Resuming From Modern Standby

The only low power state enabled on my PC is S0 - Low Power Idle, aka Modern Standby.

I have noticed that when resuming from Modern Standby, my PC will be frozen for a few seconds, perhaps 5 seconds. During this time I can move the mouse pointer (and it moves smoothly) but nothing happens when I click with the mouse. After a few seconds, my PC goes back to its usual speedy self. It's kind of annoying, but no harm is done.

I'd like to know what might cause my computer to freeze for these few seconds, and if there's a way I can stop it from happening. Thanks for your help.

[At first I thought it might be hibernation - but hibernation is not enabled.]

Make sure you have latest Dell bios installed. Then see if the Dell bios will allow you to enable S3 sleep. Some allow it. Some do not.

If the procedure does not work check bios power settings to make sure there is no option that affects enabling s3.

My BIOS is up-to-date and I'd rather not use S3. It's an older standard, which is probably why Dell chose not to support it in the firmware.

I suggest you obtain more info about the problem by finding out if the problem happens in
1 Another user account Add Local User Account - ElevenForumTutorials, and
2 In Safe mode Boot to Safe Mode - ElevenForumTutorials

If the results are
1 Yes, and
2 No
then go to your computer maker's support site, get another copy of the display driver and reinstall it [even if it is the same version as the one you have now].

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a definitive solution on the internet for my issue, just compilations of guesses that websites publish (and copy from each other.

For myself, I solved the problem by disabling Sleep, which I consider unneeded for my desktop PC. The straw that broke my camel's back was when my backup routine (which runs overnight) wasn't able to start because the computer was still frozen after resuming from Sleep.

This is an entirely different problem to that which you reported before.
Did the computer rouse itself from S0 Modern standby at all?
What setting did you have for Power options, Sleep after?
Only Sleep after - Never allows Task scheduler to run tasks.

For a S0 Modern standby, Sleep after - Never merely stops the computer sliding into a later phase of S0 Modern standby in which Task scheduler is inhibited for all but a few select tasks determined by MS [not documented but thought to include Windows update & Outlook, the Windows 11 mail app].

Glad it helped solve your problem. The symptoms are weird indeed and would have never led me to think that the Widgets feature was the culprit!
