Please help: Version 24H2 is being forced on me imminently. Is it still possible to avoid this?

I'm running Windows 11 Enterprise 23H2, build 22631.4751; I have admin privileges.

Today, Windows 11 issued a windowsupdate_icon.webp notification on my computer, and Windows Update tells me that 24H2 will be installed on restart:

windowsupdate.webp

Is it too late for me to avoid 24H2? I can't find it at the moment, but I remember seeing a tutorial -- probably by Brink -- explaining how to delay, by modifying the registry, upgrades to 24H2 until the last possible moment.

Do you think I can still give the tutorial a try (assuming I can find it again)? Or is that foolish?

I am physically disabled and rely on maximum mouse/cursor speed to operate my computer, along with some special and quite old third-party software (namely, the on-screen keyboard WiViK, which as far as I know hasn't been updated since 2010). I really don't want to install 24H2 unless I absolutely have to, because I've heard reports of many issues with it still unresolved by Microsoft.

you can try this, but no promises:

PowerShell as Admin:
Code:
net stop WuAuServ

Delete:
"C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution"

PowerShell as Admin:
Code:
net start WuAuServ

Restart PC

that works to block it but OP's pc has already installed it and is pending restart to apply update. hopefully deleting that data will save him some work lol. but once its not pending restart to install, OP can block it with your reg mod linked article, or with powershell, or with wumgr portable. thats what i've been doing. blocking on all pcs and installing 24h2 one by one as it takes an hour or so to set them all back up with customizations post 24h2 install. MicroCrap made this upgrade a real pita

Make an image with macrium or any other backup software before you restart. Then you can go back to what you have now and stop the update in settings.

Haven't have any issues with Home and Pro version but the Enterprise and maybe Education are controlled differently.

The message you have says 24H2 has already been installed and the restart is pending so that it can be completed.

Is it too late for me to avoid 24H2?

Let it install, then revert back.

I know, but was already clear - that only an update rollback could solve his issue at this point. And he can apply that after - so it won't happen again.

I was in the exact same position a week or so ago, albeit on Home edition rather than Enterprise. I was able to prevent the installation by simply pausing the updates for x number of weeks (second option under 'More options' in your screenshot)

If you visit Sordum website there is a wonderful Windows Update blocker tool but it blocks all Windows OS updates with the exception of Windows Defender virus definitions. If you are comfortable installing Windows updates manually then this the tool to use
