Hello, I just tried this because I was annoyed that the Save dialog would group the items.
But it's not doing anything at all for me.
I follow the instructions meticulously, selecting which columns I want to create, and clicking on Submit. But neither the columns get created, not the Save dialog is ungrouped.
I finally managed to ungroup it on my own and I will write a post about it for whoever wants to do it manually too (it seems that most people think it's impossible).
But I wonder what's preventing this nice tool from working for me.
Thanx

The only known reason for that problem is if that app was still open. Was it fully closed (i.e. not just closed to the system tray)? If that's not it, please let me know which app and I'll test it.

The App that generated the save dialog.
I didn't refer to any specific app, and it was the Browser btw.
And yes, I've read the manual so I've closed all apps including the VPN and even closed some processes in Task Manager.
I will try again without closing processes in Task Manager just in case that one of them was needed, but I only closed those which were blatantly unrelated.
Anyway, I'll try and update you.

So the "app" in this case is your browser. Which browser?

There seems to be a misunderstanding. I wasn't using any app in that moment.
In my comment I was referring to something that annoys me in general, not to something which was happening in that moment.
I then mentioned the Browser because I've used that to make tests to see if WinSetView had fixed the issue. So, I opened the Browser after applying the settings with WinSetView.
As said, "I've read the [WinSetView] manual so I've closed all apps including the VPN and even closed [= forcibly ended] some processes in Task Manager [to have even less things running which might interfere]".

Unless you're using that stupid Explorer SDK, I, for the life of me, cannot figure out why this is such an ongoing problem!?!?!? 🤷‍♂️

Just set it!!!

Yeah I discovered the same and wondered the same, for the lifeless life of me: HERE
I suspect that the reason why many people don't find a way to un-group it is the lack of "sort" menu, and that if they right-click the wrong spot they get a different context menu with "select" and other options but no sorting/grouping.

But @LesFerch 's tools does much more than that, so it's a pity that it's not working for me.

It absolutely should work. That was the whole motivation for the development of the tool in the first place - getting rid of grouping everywhere!

In order to resolve this, I must replicate the problem or, at least, replicate your steps to get a clue as to what's going wrong.

Here's what I did as a test (and everything worked fine).

1. I started with all view folder settings at Microsoft defaults. You can do that with the reset option in WinSetView, or use the script here, or create a new local account.

2. I opened up the Downloads folder via various routes (e.g. This PC, User icon, etc.) and verified that group by Date modified appears everywhere. I repeated this using the Edge and Chrome browsers by right-clicking and choosing "Save As" and "Save Image As". I had to populate my Downloads folder with HTML and image type files so I could see that there was grouping. Again, I did all that via various routes.

3. I then closed the browsers (I did not bother to kill any tasks) and ran WinSetView. I then checked all folders and dialogs as before and grouping was gone everywhere, as expected.

So, let me know exactly what you tested and where it failed (screenshots may help). It may help to send me you settings file from WinSetView. That will be the file named win10.ini (yes, even for Windows 11).

Hi, I'd not know "of what" I should send a screenshot.
Of something that isn't there?
Anyway, it's not just about the grouping in the Save dialog.
It's all. Nothing of what I do in your tool is registered in the system.
No columns created.
No default view for the opening of File Explorer (which actually I had on This PC and now changed to the default in Home after I tried your program and no matter what I do with it it doesn't change back to This PC like I had and wanted and want it).
Nothing of the option for Explorer.
And no grouping.
Absolutely no result whatsoever.
I tried running it as Admin (which btw, it runs a parallel instance, and if e.g. I change the appearance of your program from the default light blue to Dark 4 in the Admin instance, when I run the not Admin instance it's still the light blue), or as non-Admin.
I tried the portable and the executable.
Nothing at all.

Do you have the same build as mine?

The build is definitely not the issue. It sounds like something is blocking it. What AV software do you have? Did you see the PowerShell window and multiple "The operation completed successfully" messages?

The only way I can get no results would be by unchecking every folder type with only "Global" selected. That would do nothing because Global has to be inherited by at least one folder type to set any folder view defaults.

Running "as administrator" while logged in as an administrator is unnecessary but would do no harm. Running "as administrator" while logged in as a Standard user would run in the context of the admin account used at the UAC prompt, so that would not work at all. WinSetView is designed to work for Standard users and should also work even if the "Disable registry editing" policy is set, but just so we're comparing apples to apples, are you logged in as a Standard user?

The apparently not-saved INI file would be explained by running as administrator while logged in as a Standard user. It's saved, but for a different user account.

Nope, right after pressing on Submit, it all disappears quickly like sucked in the void.

No, I am the only user so I have the default kind of account which Windows creates after the install, = Admin.

I never said that the INI wasn't saved, where did you take that? Because I said "of something that doesn't exist"? I meant a screenshot of a result that doesn't happen.
Here's the ini from the AppData folder.
If you want the one from the Defaults folder, let me know...

Ah, I can't upload an ini here.
Wait, I can save it as txt.
Here:

Thanx

I don't think it is a relevant info.

It sounds like PowerShell is being blocked. Do you have any security software other than Windows Defender? Have you set up any policies that might prevent PowerShell from running?

In regards to the INI file, you stated that the WinSetView theme settings did not save, which implies that the INI file did not save.

Yes, a screenshot is of no use now that you clarified that no changes are being applied at all. Previously I thought there was a problem only with a specific open/save dialog and was curious what specific dialog that would be.

Just to be sure everything's fine with WinSetView, I tested it with a Standard user (and also with the disallow registry tools policy applied) and everything worked correctly. The INI file you provided was fine and all of those settings were applied. Obviously if that works, then running as a typical Administrator type user without any registry policy restriction is fine too.

It looks like the issue is that your computer is not allowing PowerShell scripts to run.

Nope.
What if I save and extract the zip in C instead of D?

Weird, anything else that I do with Powershell works as expected.
Any way to test it further to find the cause?

You can run powershell as admin and run:
Code:
set-executionpolicy -executionpolicy unrestricted
Then try to run it. Just to test
