PPP

Setting up Centurylink Router, in browser activation, it says "here is your PPP Username, PPP Password", but it is blank after that. I have disabled all adblockers, tried this in 2 browsers. The installation technicians did not leave this information behind, which is weird. It is not on their activation letter, or any other papers they gave me. How do I find this information without contacting their support?

I don't think it's possible without contacting them; isn't that the point of passwords? . Unless it's stuck on the back/bottom of the router.
Can't you phone them?

Every Centurylink router I've seen has a tag on the side or bottom with the default passphrase, admin username and password.

He's not after the router password, but the PPP one.

Yes, it has the WiFi name/pass, and the Router Administration name/pass. But I wasn't asking about that. I was asking about the PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet).

Depending on ISP, not all will give you your PPP password, and blank it out so you are forced to use ISP router. Vofafone in UK were guilty of this but they have changed policy so you can install a 3rd party router.

You so not say if router is fine but if it is, your only need to have password is if you want to change router. Note - if you do, that pretty much invalidates router dupport from ISP.

If ISP will not let you change router, you can connect a 3rd party router via lan ports to overcome ISP router limitations e.g. some ISP routers will not let you change DNS.

So key question is why do you need the password?

You cannot change it as it is assigned by ISP and part of router firmware as set up. It is secure to the extent that nobody could hack it short of stealing router.

You might be able to query the PPP password using Telnet.
