Solved Problem connecting Thunderbird to Office365.com

In the past I've had no problem setting up email server accounts in Thunderbird - I have 5 active connections right now - but I'm having trouble connecting to Office365.com.
According to this web page I should use
Code:
Protocol     Server name         Port     Encryption method
POP3     Outlook.office365.com     995     SSL/TLS
IMAP4     Outlook.office365.com     993     SSL/TLS
SMTP     Smtp.office365.com         587     STARTTLS
That worked fine for inbound -the IMAP connection works fine - but the SMTP connection times out.

I read the OAuth 2 is now required for these connections. I have no experience with it but I specified it and it worked for IMAP (as I said). I assume I'm supposed to use the same userid and password for both the IMAP and the SMTP connection (although I have no idea what is done with them when OAuth 2 is used). Thunderbird allows me to specify a different userid for the SMTP connection but I haven't seen that I need to ... and I have no idea where I can enter it's associated password.

I know nothing about Office365. Is it possible that IMAP is enabled for this account but SMTP is not?
Any ideas what I do next to debug this?

I don't know if it matters, but I'm running Thunderbird 128.1.

I discovered that SMTP was not enabled in the email I account. I requested it be enabled, but it still didn't work. Then I remembered reading that the Thunderbird account definitions using for connections using OAuth2 have to be deleted and reentered when some parts of the definition are changed (such as when enabling OAuth2). I guess it has something to do with setting up the OAuth credentials. Having nothing to lose, I deleted the definition, reentered it, and then the SMTP connection worked!
