Ciao,
From windows update install the cumulative update (KB5050009), as soon as it finishes the pc restarts, and it gives me the error "something did not work as expected. No need to worry: canceling changes in progress. Is there any solution, I read various solutions around but I have not solved it. Thanks in advance.

You can perform repair install it can help.

You can also perform in-place upgrade of Windows 11. In-place upgrade is to use to replace the current operating system files on your computer. Unlike a clean installation of Windows, you can start a Windows in-place upgrade when your OS is still running. And an in-place upgrade can keep your files, settings, & apps during the upgrade process. You can perform a Windows 11 in-place upgrade is to use the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool. Hi guys. I am having trouble installing KB5050009 as well. I tried to download/install through W11 Windows update. It downloads fine, but fails to install (Install error - 0x800f081f). I was going to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter, but that would reinstall the OS, but keep Apps and files. I recently did an OS reinstall, so I don't really want to go through that again. Is there a way to download/install manually? I heard of something about going through the Microsoft Update Catalog? Where can I find that, and is the install process easy? Help appreciated :)

Install failed with the standalone update file, says "Installer encountered an error: 0x800f0838... Not sure what else to try. Further help requested :)

I also ran sfc /scannow in admin command prompt. It did the scan and found no errors...

I was reading the X-Lite Optimum thread where it was stated that KB5050009 had also failed to install.
A post stated they d/l'd and installed the "NET 9. 0 & .NET 8.0.12 Plus the run times" which resolved the issue.

Hi guys. Update from Microsoft update catalog failed to install also (KB5050009). I did an sfc /scannow in admin command prompt, found no errors. In Windows Update, it downloads fine, and starts install. Gets to about 80% and then fails to install (Install error - 0x800f081f). :(

Not sure what else to do or try... Help appreciated :)

I read a little bit about the in-place upgrade and that it will keep my files, settings, and apps. As far as apps go, will it keep only apps from Windows or Microsoft store, or will it keep everything such as my games on Steam, EA App, Epic, Ubisoft/Uplay? I primarily use my laptop for gaming. Further help appreciated :)

You will use Windows 11 installation ISO to perform repair install.
Unless the ISO has the most recent updates included, it will not repair to the latest version.
Without an updated ISO, the only way to do the repair install is through Windows Update, using the process I described here: KB5050009 problem installing.

Hi guys, here is an update: I don't know what exactly fixed it, but I was finally able to download and install KB5050009 successfully, with Microsoft's help. I contacted Microsoft through the get help page, after trying to run Windows Update Troubleshooter (Clicking run on that opened the "get help" online page. Tier 1 of support wasn't able to help me, they did a screen share session with me and cleared Windows Update cache, as well as doing sfc /scannow in command prompt. The scan found no corrupted files installed. Tier 1 tech bumped me to a Tier 2 tech, and that person ran me through an Windows 11 in place upgrade through an ISO. After W11 installed and everything, KB5050009 installed successfully. As person above stated, I don't think the ISO I had was the most recent, therefore probably didn't have latest updates, so I am not sure how exactly the issue was fixed. All is good now though :)
