Apparently I've got some C++ problem with my system? When installing TurboTax, it tries to download a C++ Redistributable Package and the error message on the right appears. (The complete path of the "Use source": box is C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\{C96241EA-9900-4FE8-85B3-1E238D509DF6}v14.32.31326\packages\vcRuntimeMinimum_amd64\)

I tried the usual go-to trio of chkdsk c: /f, sfc /scannow and DISM /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth and all indicate no problems.

What do I do next to resolve this?

I also get a similar error when running winget upgrade and it tries to install C++ 2022 v 14.42.34433:

I found four instances of the vc_runtimeMinimum_x64.msi file:

All of them throw up an error message like this:

Your PackageCache folder has missing files somehow and files have been deleted.
I had the same issue a long time ago when I thought is would be wise the delete the content of that folder.
My solution was to go in the registry and search/delete any reference to the failing .msi path. (they are a few keys)
I bet you get the similar error if you try to uninstall the previous version as well.
Then I was able to run the installer.

Just to make sure I understand: You suggest deleting any Registry entry that contains the path that is shown in the "Use source" in the error message? e.g. C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\{13A4EE12-23EA-3371-91EE-EFB36DDFFF3E}v12.0.21005\packages\vcRuntimeMinimum_x86\

What are the chances that there are other situations that might require those Registry entries?

- Yes, the fully qualified path to the .msi, press F3 for next instance in regedit.
- Anything else that might be missing from the PackageCache would yield the same outcome.

Okay, we have a winner!

I went back to the TurboTax installer and each time I got errors installing the C++ stuff, I copied the path in the "Use source" field of the error window and searched for occurrences of it in Regedit, exported each key as a backup, and then deleted the key. Did that four times. (After deleting the first "Use source" path's two entries, went back to the TurboTax installer and got a second "Use source" path and deleted it's two entries from Registry.)

Many thanks to everybody who helped! 👍
