Query about error popup when creating bootable USB with Rufus.

Morning everyone,

My HDD is poorly, so my good lady has ordered another.
I have downloaded the latest compatible iso from the Insiders page on Microsoft...

When Rufus starts to create the bootable USB image, it pops up with the alert in the attached image.

Will I still be able to use this to install a fresh install on a new HDD?
If not, how do I fix this?.

And the ISO is from Microsoft not UU Dump?
Which version/Build is the ISO, Bob?

The Insider Preview is not the most stable version. I would suggest downloading the latest stable release, unless you like to test software. The current public release version can be downloaded from the site below and you may find that trying to install it won't be problematic.


Of course, it's your computer and you can download any version you want. I'm just making a suggestion.

Thank you anyway. It's 24H2, The version I have installed on my PC is 26100.2314, which doesn't seem to be listed there.
I have downloaded 26100.1150 - that seems to be the highest version shewn that's available on the release preview stream.

Windows Update will bring it to the latest ISO Version 24H2 Build: 26100.2314

Option Two will get you the first released ISO from Microsoft:

Bob, if you download Option One and create the RUFUS install media with that ISO, Windows Update will bring it to the latest ISO Version 24H2 Build: 26100.2314
It may even update it during install. As Microsoft has changed the install process.

When using the Media Creation Tool process (Option One) to download the ISO, tell Media Creation Tool to save it as an ISO, not created install media on a USB
Because I am assuming due to you using RUFUS, your hardware isn't supported?

I am currently running build 2314 (installed fine via windows update. My install of 24H2 was from Microsoft, without recourse to such things as Rufus! It was probably my mistake, but I went online to check on how to create a bootable USB installation, and was told to use Rufus.

I was looking at your hardware. The CPU is fine with SSE4.2
If your Motherboard doesn’t already have the module attached, apparently you could buy one (the correct one) and add TPM2 yourself.
But if you installed 24H2 without Rufusd, my guess is you’re good to go.

Rufus complaining about security of UUP dump bootloader

I downloaded an ISO from UUP dump. Specifically, it was 23H2 (22631.4391). I used the download script to have my Parallels Windows 11 VM make it into an ISO. The complete file name of that—in case it matters—is “22631.4391.241016-1425.23H2_NI_RELEASE_SVC_PROD3_CLIENTPRO_OEMRET_X64FRE_EN-US.ISO”...

In my opinion, you are better off with a release version of Windows. But that is entirely up to you, Bob.

I was looking at your hardware. The CPU is fine with SSE4.2
If your Motherboard doesn’t already have the module attached, apparently you could buy one (the correct one) and add TPM2 yourself.
But if you installed 24H2 without Rufusd, my guess is you’re good to go.
