I swear that in Windows 10, then until recently in W11, if adding attachments to a gmail message (I use Firefox for my browser, but I think this applies to anything), "recent files" would be an option under "quick access/home." But now there's no "recent files" option. Recent files do show in File Explorer.

How do I make them visible in gmail attachments? That is, when composing a message in gmail in a browser:
  1. Click "add attachments
  2. This is part of the window that appears to upload attachments:

  3. There is a list of pinned libraries, a small number of recent folders, but no "recent files" - I'd like to see "recent files" as an option

My Recent doesn't show in the Navigation panel but in the right panel when Home is selected.

I'm not with the computer about which I was asking. And it turns out that this isn't just a gmail issue; it's any web site allowing file upload.

Below is from Windows 10.

You can see Recent Items pinned with four other libraries. In Windows 11, I can't find a way to pin Recent Items in the Home (Quick Access in Win10) area. That's what I'm trying to do, in the upload files dialog from a browser.

I apologize for bumping my own post.

But surely there must be SOME easy way to pin "recent files" and "recent folders" as I'd asked about, and I am unable to find anything on that in these forums or on the web as a whole.

I think they've disabled the ability to pin a virtual folder to the Navigation Pane.
You can do so with WinaeroTweaker, pinning a shell location to the navigation pane..., however, often the problem with Recent Items is, many of those items are no longer in the original location, sent to Trash, for example.

I think I mostly fixed the problem.

I navigated to %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent Items then went up one level (so I guess navigating to %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows would have been better), then right-clicked on the Recent Items folder and picked "Pin to Quick Access" and that added it:

So now the next question. In the above dialog, the "documents" shortcut is collapsed. But if I open that dialog (to attach or upload a file) it is expanded, spewing all my many Documents subfolders in a list. I'd like the default for it to be for Documents to show up unexpanded as we see below. And for Home to show up expanded, with the "recent files" list visible.

Any way to do that?
