Restore Macrium Reflect Image from Boot Menu.

Hi. I have restored Reflect images from within the Reflect program in Windows but have never restored using the Boot Menu and thought I should find out in case I need to. We have Reflect v8 paid installed and have the Reflect Boot Menu on all 4 of our pcs.
Am I correct in thinking that I would connect the USB Ext HDD, boot the PC and select Reflect System Recovery. I'm not sure what happens after that and was hoping I could get some info from Macrium users as to how to proceed. Grateful for your help. Mitch.

This is how you restore from the bootable media, and I would assume it's the same from the Boot Menu option.
The manual doesn't show any other methods fro restoring.

Yes, you can. If you boot to Reflect from the boot menu it is identical to having booted from the rescue USB (only faster to boot up).

In fact you don't even need to boot from the boot menu to start a restore. You can right-click on an .mrimg file and start it from there. And if you haven't yet added Reflect to the boot menu it will do so for you before rebooting to start the restore.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

Booting from the boot menu is just another means of booting the recue media. You should be able to recover either by booting from the menu or from bootable rescue media.

In either case, you should make sure to test your ability to recover. Boot from either the boot menu or from rescue media and make sure that you can see both the backups that you have made as well as the destination drive that you would be recovering to should you ever need to do so. If the boot menu and / or recue media can see the backups as well as the destination, you should be able to then select a backup and restore it.

Thanks for the great info. Thinking about preparing for 24H2 and problems during and after installation. Having a backup program like Reflect available takes much of the concern away so forewarned is forearmed. I've already got the Macrium Boot menu on our devices. Strangely enough, on one of our pcs, after I run a backup, on restart the boot menu sometimes doesn't show and I have to remove and restate it. Not sure what's going on. Thanks again.

The boot menu is very handy. I've used a few times now to recover a problem PC without any issues. Watch out for this issue though if you upgrade to 24H2 Pink Boot Menu After 24H2 Upgrade

Thanks again. I'll watch out for the pink boot menu screen and use the base video driver in msconfig. If when you are in Windows the main Intel Iris driver kicks in, that should be fine. Not planning to move to 24H2 for a few months so hopefully MS will have addressed this bug by then. Thanks.

That problem seems to be rare and only affects a very few specific types of graphics hardware. I have tested running 24H2 on some half dozen various laptops, some supported devices, others not. Only one of the supported devices has that pink boot menu, my System Five (see My Computers > Other Info). It uses a Pentium Silver N5030 with Intel UHD Graphics 605.
