Revo Uninstaller Pro Portable: Conditions on use?

I see this on the site:
"Revo Uninstaller Pro Portable is a non-installable version of Revo Uninstaller Pro that does not store any information in Windows Registry and can be used on removable drives.

The licensing of Revo Uninstaller Pro Portable is per user, not per computer. In terms of functionality both versions of Revo Uninstaller Pro are identical.

The portable version must be activated after being downloaded, in order to work, as it doesn't have trial period.

Please note that the portable version is not designed to be activated separately on each computer, on which it will be used.
It is designed to be activated once, then moved to a USB flash drive, and used directly from there on any computer."

I think this is the only portable I've seen with this condition. I have thirty-three portables on each of my two main PCs, and all work just fine without adding themselves to the registry (or to the Installed Apps list). I am using Revo 2.4.2 Free currently on both PCs, and I like the results of using it so much that I'm willing to pay the developers for its use (and get the benefits of the Pro version), but I want to download it and "install" it to the folder of my choice from a .zip file, and then copy that folder (with the activated, paid-for version in it) to my other PC.

It looks as though the developers are forbidding this. Am I right? Can I not do what I've done with all my other un-installed portables?

Comes with a portable option and it's free (there's no commercial version - except for donations). As i recall - it should be able to do everything that Revo can + more (didn't try revo lately - so don't know if it added extra functions - to able to compete with BCU).

The wording on their site is quite vague. I believe you are correct that is the way they INTEND the portable version of Pro to be used. As you say, if one buys the portable version, registers it, and puts it on a flash drive, it's supposed to work on any computer. Possibly upon each use one is required to enter a user/password of the registered user. That would make sense since the installed Pro version 'phones home'.

For the life of me, I can see no reason why copying the folder from a flash drive to a location on your computer would not work the same as running it from a flash drive. I guess another possibility is the program can somehow detect the location from where the program is being run from. But IMO that would be stretching it. If that proved to be the case copying its folder to the root of any drive should prevent it.

(As you can tell, I'm making a lot of guesses here when in fact, I don't know diddly squat since I've never used Pro Portable. The free version does all I've ever needed. I use the free portable version on my usb stick. )

I've been using Revo Pro Portable for some time, I keep it in a folder with other portable apps and have never put it on a USB.

When changing computers, it has always transferred by just entering the activation key.

Thanks for the info. I really want to stick with Revo Uninstaller, because I like what it does. I think that if there is no answer here to my questions, I'll just buy two licenses for the installed version of Pro 5. The only program I currently run from a flash drive is my Macrium Reflect bootable rescue program, and I think I'll just keep it that way. Really old codgers get set in their ways.

Okay, thanks for that. Now I'm thinking that if I get the portable and "install" it on two PCs, I can activate it on one, and then deactivate it on that one and activate it on the other. I'm not likely ever to be using it on both PCs at the same time.

Any notion whether that would work?

I'm really not trying to be a cheapskate, here, but considering the fact that in Canadian $$$, it's about 60.00 for two truly installed copies (two licenses) for one year. and about 40.00 for one portable license, I'm currently thinking the portable is the way to go.

Yes, it would work, I have done it myself.
I bought an upgrade to Revo Uninstaller Pro 5 Portable (from Pro 4 portable) a month ago for $11.98 (USD), they are always offering deals.

Thanks for that reminder @jimbo45. I think anyone who's really serious about using portables on a flash OR on an internal drive should already be a frequent user of PortableApps.com. They're good, they're fast, and they're reliable for clean, unbundled portable programs. Using their portable apps platform is entirely optional, but it's convenient for users who don't want to have to monitor their portables individually for updates. Updates are announced by the platform, and users are given the choice of taking them or not.

OTOH, there is a site that calls itself PortableAppZ.com, and It might be wise to give them a pass. Just wouldn't want anyone who doesn't know about the Z site to confuse PortableApps.com with PortableAppZ.com.
