I have an ongoing issue with screen fluttering and flashing on and off. I have been closing all apps and signing and then rebooting. Works fine for a week or more and then suddenly starts again. Any ideas? Thanks

Welcome to ElevenForum. :-)

What are your temperatures like?
Have you ever cleaned the dust out of the laptop?
When did the problem start?

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 13 years?
In response to Ghot:
Laptop is 1.5-2 yrs old. Kept in home at 75-77 degrees. Problem started about a month ago. No, never cleaned dust out of laptop - not sure why that would be necessary for how/where it's used. Did you mean open up laptop and blow/vacuum around components? Thanks

................. screen fluttering and flashing on and off........................
Try these the next time it happens:

  • Open Task Manager. Is it flickering along with everything else or not?
  • Hold down the Windows + Ctrl + Shift + B keys to reset your graphics driver. Does that help or not?

Secret Squirrel, I have opened Task Manager on previous occasions and screen is flickering (mostly black screen) when doing so. Sometimes I can get the screen on without touching mouse and can see Task Manager which doesn't flicker itself but screen in general flickering (going black then on continuously. I will try your suggestion next time. Thanks

Secret Squirrel, not having the issue at present but went ahead and did the graphics driver reset you suggested so we'll see if maybe the issue doesn't come back but if it does I'll try again then.

If Task Manager is unaffected and everything around it is flickering then that points to an incompatible app. If everything is affected then that points to a problem with the graphics drivers. My Windows + Ctrl + Shift + B tip will only help when you're actually experiencing this issue.

I would download latest graphics drivers directly from HP. Use the P/N or S/N to find the exact model. If there is no Windows 11 driver, switch to Windows 10 64-bit. You can also download latest driver directly from Intel/nVidia/AMD. Use Aida64 utility to find the exact graphics card you have.

OK, he can use Aida64 to find out which it is (UHD 630?) and then download latest driver from Intel. This is usually newer than latest driver on HP support site.

Thanks to all. I did the graphics driver reset when Secret Squirrel suggested it. I wasn't having an issue at the time because I had already rebooted the laptop which usually clears it up - at least for a while. Still not having an issue as yet so we'll see in time if that corrected it. If not, I'll follow your other suggestions on graphics update - might do soon anyway.

Probably Windows Update already installed a graphics driver and the issue is gone. However it usually installs the minimum (core graphics driver), not the full package, so I would download the full driver from manufacturer and install it. I have also noticed that Windows Update installs an older driver than available in nVidia download site (for my GTX 1050 Ti), yet another reason to download the official driver manually and not rely entirely on Windows Update.
