Hi

I have in the past used Team Viewer with a buddy of mine to share my screen, and it works just fine. I am going to be sharing my screen with someone else in the near future, but this time it will be video (as in a film) with audio. I tried running a test with TV and two computers in my house (same network)... the vid runs fine on the hosting computer, but on the computer that the video is being shared to, the video is very choppy. Live video is a lot of data to be xferred, and I guess I am just asking too much here.

The only solution that I am aware of, is Source Live. It's a subscription, and tho there is a one-time $75 set-up fee, $45 per month for 10 hours is far from terrible. But that's not the sort of thing one would do for a one-time session, or maybe two over 4 or 5 months.

Anyone know of any other solutions?

Thanks in advance.

Well, if the film is not copyrighted, the easiest option is to record it, and send other user a copy.

Assuming you are talking about sharing over internet, you should use a tool like Plex.

Teamviewer and similar tools that are remote control based will use a lot of bandwidth.

Plex will adjust resolution as it is designed to stream only.

Note - if you try to stream copyrighted material, it may not work due to digital rights protection.

You can do both i) share screen, and ii) share ('stream') video in Zoom meetings. Just select "Share Screen" from within the Zoom app, and then play your video.

Hi there
Any video server should work --- plus what's wrong with Desktop sharing remote assistance in "Bog standard" windows,

The issue presumably if you merely want to share video or be able to have sound and video input also from the "Sharee's".

KODI is also another good video server with almost endless possibilities too. Free on Windows, Linux and Android.

Cheers
jimbo.

There is no copyright issue here. If I send the other person a copy, there is no way to get that copy to play in sync with the audio coming from my system.

So Plex will do this? I can play the video on my computer and share my screen with my friend, and he will see the video play in real time without it being choppy? Plex will do this?

plus what's wrong with Desktop sharing remote assistance in "Bog standard" windows,

Well, nothing. Desktop sharing remote assistance is going to allow me to share video in real time without it being choppy?

re: Zoom - that will do what TV does not, and share good quality video so that it is not choppy, but instead plays nice and smooth? My understanding is that Zoom can not do this.

KODI - I am unable to add videos to the playlist to share. It seems to not recognize standard video file extensions?

Thanks.

My experience of Zoom, is that streaming from YouTube, etc produces nice results. Assuming that your Internet connection has the bandwidth, and your system has enough RAM.
