I need to record my screen for a project I am working on. I could use the snipping tool's screen recording function which works well. However, I want to work in a contained environment for this project so I use VMware workstation 17 player. When I record using the snipping tool inside the VM, the color of the footage was distorted. Looking like some bright pink/purple filter was applied.
I tried upgrading both windows and the snipping tool to the newest version but it didnt work.
I then saw some posts mentioned there was a simular problem and it is the screenshot turning gray. My screenshot function don't have a problem but I still tried following their method to change the color management settings but it also don't work.
I tried some other software such as OBS. It did not have the color issue but the recording's quality was downgraded no matter how I adjust the settings.
I need the recordings to be the same resulotion as my original screen footage and so far only snipping tool can achieve that. But it just have this color problem with VMware for some reason.
I could really use some help with fuguring out why is this happening and how to fix it.

There's no information about the computer in My Computer, it's specs., so it's difficult to say anything. I keep in mind that much of VM activity may be held in memory and that can affect the screen display.

Is HDR enabled? turn it off if so. Also are you using Chrome browser?

I've had issues similar to the one the OP is having, and it was related to HDR settings.

If it’s not hdr related, you can try the game bar recording function to test if it’s snipping tool related or not (if you don’t want to install additional software)

The posts I saw said something about this too. HDR isnt avaliable in my VM in the first place so I don't think it is the cause.

Game bar recording function works well in terms of quality. But turns out it requires DirectX 12 Ultimate which the VM dont support.
At this point I had tried snipping tool, game bar, obs and some freeware from microsoft store. Sadly, every method just have a fault that make it unuseable for my case.

I’ve been using this for years without issues

Maybe @Edwin can advise on ShareX as a possibility

I'm afraid I can't speak intelligently on using ShareX to screen record within a VM, because I've never tried it, but, it's completely free so, I don't see any harm in trying it.

Update: I decided to try snipping tool on VirtualBox instead. Looks like it works faultlessly this time. So basically the problem exclusively occure when using VMware with snipping tool. I think I would settle with VirtualBox and snipping tool for this project.
Also, thankyou for the help. The tools suggested to me seems decent as well, might try it later if I need another method for screen recording.
