I gave my father in law a windows 11 Lenovo m920q, fresh install of windows.
He's not having issues with being able to get onto sites like yahoo etc, but he's not getting onto sites like surfshark, it says the site is unavailable.

He mainly uses duck duck go as a browser but it also happens on edge.
I have reset windows firewall to default just in case that was it.

Any ideas on what would cause this?

1. Try disabling all browser add-ons and test..
2. Also disable vpn and test.
3. What anti-virus is he using? If it is anything other than Windows Defender disable(or uninstall) AV and test
4. Possibly his dns server is blocking him OR the server has an issue. You can test whether of not it is a problem with his dns server by changing to one of the public dns servers. For example these are open dns servers. If it's not a dns server issue, you can leave it changed or change it back to whatever his default it. It should work either way.

  • Cloudflare: 1.1.1.1 & 1.0.0.1
  • Google: 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4

It's just windows defender & windows firewall.
He can't get into surfshark to install the VPN.
There is also a windows 10 Lenovo M700 connected to the same TV, it gets onto all the sites so I think it means the ISP hasn't blocked anything.

Also flush the DNS resolver cache in case it holds inaccurate data

Win+X...Terminal (Admin) and then type ipconfig /flushdns ENTER
